REPORT: Ecuador in third place in air traffic of the Andean Community – CAN, also made up of Colombia, Peru and Bolivia, which together grew during the 2017 in a 11,9% in relation to the previous year in number of passengers transported.

In the statistical data presented by the CAN at the end of January 2018, that take data from January to September 2017, show an increasing trend in the number of passengers transported in the 4 countries belonging to the group that was founded as the Andean Pact in 1969 and changed to its current name in 1996.
Between the 4 countries that make up the bloc have a population of more than 120 million inhabitants in an area of 3.781.914 km2 and achieve a GDP of $2.118.684 millions.
Passengers transported in the Andean Community
At country level, Peru registered an increase of 22,5%, followed by Colombia, Bolivia and Ecuador with increases of 7,8%, 4,5% and 3,4%, respectively.

Colombia mobilized the 45,2% of passengers in the Andean Community, followed by Peru with the 36,4%, Ecuador with the 13,2% and Bolivia with the 5,2%.

While Colombia and Peru increased their participation, Ecuador reduced its participation in -1.2% and Bolivia in -0.3%.
On the side of airlines that operate within the CAN, these offered to and from the 4 countries 28.281 seats and these were taken 22.470 which implies an average occupancy of 79.4%
Peru and Colombia have the highest average occupancy with the 80,8% and 80,4%, respectively, Ecuador follows with the 75,4% and Bolivia with the 73,4%.

At country level, Peru presented the highest growth in intra-community air passenger traffic in 31,4%, followed by Ecuador with the 11,4% in second place, Colombia in 7,7%, and Bolivia in 3,3%. This traffic represents the 17% of all traffic in the Andean Community.

Regarding airlines, The presence of the 3 Ecuadorian airlines within the TOP 20 of companies that fly to or from the CAN. Avianca Ecuador in first place, LATAM Ecuador in second and Tame EP in third place among the 3 representatives of Ecuador.
The main airlines that carried out international passenger flights in the countries of the Andean Community were: Colombian airline Avianca with a total of 4,227.000 mobilized passengers, followed by LATAM Peru with a total of 2,622.000, Avianca Ecuador mobilized 1,560.000, Copa Airlines Colombia recorded traffic of 1,431.000 thousand passengers, Avianca Peru 1,395.000, American Airlines 1,164.000, the Chilean company LATAM Airlines transported 1,100.000, the Panamanian airline Copa Airlines mobilized 1,083.000, LATAM Ecuador 639.000, the Spanish airline Iberia recorded a traffic of 528.000, Aeromexico transported 459.000 passengers, followed by US airlines United Airlines with a record of 454.000, and JetBlue Airways with a total 408.000, Air Europa 405.000 passengers, LATAM Airlines Brazil recorded traffic of 385.000, Delta Airlines 354.000, Bolivian Aviation (BoA) and KLM transported 345.000 passengers each, Avianca El Salvador 335.000 thousand passengers, and the area line TAME from Ecuador mobilized 326.000 passengers.

Avianca Costa Rica airlines, Long live Colombia, LATAM Colombia, Spirit Airlines and Air France presented lower international air traffic than the 300.000 thousand passengers.
According to percentage participation, the airlines: Avianca of Colombia, LATAM Peru, Avianca Ecuador, Copa Airlines Colombia and Avianca Perú concentrated the 50,0% of international air passenger traffic in the Andean Community.
