Following the master plan and before a sign of increased passenger traffic, Quito airport announces expansion plan 2017-2020.

- Passenger Terminal Extension: which will grow by one 18% and 21% increase in the process area that contemplates the installation of six additional self-check kiosks and the increase in the migration area by one 34% and customs in a 13%. The boarding area will grow in 3.200 m2, allowing the increase in the capacity of departure lounges in a 19%, including a boarding gate and an additional sleeve.
- Expansion of the commercial passenger platform, with the construction of 11 215 m2 with an additional aircraft parking space.
The improvement and expansion plan has an investment of US$ 90 millions, distributed in US$ 60 million for expansion works and US$ 30 million for improvements.
- Growth and readjustment of the International VIP Lounge (delivered 2017).
- Implementation of the transit area: facilitates airport processes in the connections of passengers in transit (delivered 2017).
- Road and landscaping project (delivered 2017).
For the year 2020, The following projects will be delivered:
- Reconfiguration of the Public Departures Hall: the information counter will be moved to a space with greater visibility in the center of the hall, in such a way that some stores will be relocated allowing a better use of the space. New finishes and floors will also be used to modernize this area..
- Reconfiguration of the arrival area: with a view to increasing the capacity, It is contemplated to install a sixth luggage belt in order to optimize the delivery of luggage and give greater comfort to the traveler.
It is also worth emphasizing, that in the Quito airport, in parallel, the new one is also built ZEDE QUITO or Special Development Zone (Special Economic Development Zone) what is known as a free zone, located south of the runway on its eastern side.
Since its inauguration, the Marshal Sucre has already passed through 2 expansion phases. The phase 1 which contemplated the expansion of the national terminal incorporating 2 new boarding gates and Phase 2A, which involved the expansion of the cargo platform, increasing its capacity with 2 new parking spaces for large aircraft type Boeing 777F or Boeing 747F.
The growing demand for international passengers promote this new stage, that in addition, according to demand and peak hours will allow expanding the capacity of dedicated boarding gates for domestic and international flights.

Years ago it was possible to know details of what would be the great expansion plan of the airport until 30 years since its opening.
