The Chilean ultra-low-cost airline JetSmart will fly to Colombia to become a new operator of the growing and important air market Colombian.
The company with its main base in Chile and which has already opened its first subsidiary JetSmart Argentina, seeks to continue expanding its operations in the region, thus requested to operate regular international flights to Colombia.
JetSmart Airlines requested authorization from the Civil Aeronautics of Colombia to establish itself as an international passenger air transportation company., cargo and mail, to provide service with Airbus A320 aircraft on the following routes, which were authorized:

- Santiago – Barranquilla – Santiago 1 weekly frequencies.
- antofagasta – Barranquilla – antofagasta 1 weekly frequency.
- Santiago – Cartagena – Santiago 1 weekly frequencies.
- antofagasta – Cartagena – antofagasta 1 weekly frequency.
- Santiago – Pereira – Santiago 1 weekly frequencies.
- antofagasta – Pereira – antofagasta 1 weekly frequency.
- Santiago – Medellin – Santiago 1 weekly frequencies.
- antofagasta – Medellin – antofagasta 1 weekly frequency.
It should be noted that only the first two requested frequencies are framed in the current bilateral agreement between both countries..
Total, the airline requests to operate 14 weekly frequencies between Santiago and Antofagasta (Hub secondary of the airline in the north of Chile) toward 7 different Colombian cities, in what could be in the long term, the beginning of the creation of the airline as a domestic scheduled passenger company.
Start of flights
The first routes have already been announced, which will connect Chile with Colombia with a new airline from the 20 from December to 2019:
- Santiago – Cali – Santiago begins the 20 December with two weekly flights on Airbus A320neo aircraft.

For both new routes and on a promotional basis, The airline raised the following price:
- A road from Bogotá or Cali to Santiago from $145 dollars including fees and taxes.

JetSmart is part of the Indigo Partners LLC group of Phoenix United States, which has a total of 430 Airbus A320neo aircraft and 38 Airbus A321XLR and neo aircraft.
In this group are the airlines Frontier Airlines of the United States, JetSMART in Chile and Argentina, Volaris from Mexico and Wizz Air from Hungary, to which all the airplanes in orders will be distributed, corresponding 70 planes for JetSmart with the aim of growing throughout the region as a large ultra airline low cost.
