The governments of Ecuador and Argentina signed an agreement that releases the limit of air frequencies that can be operated between both nations.
Until the past 1 May 2024, The frequencies that local airlines from both countries could operate were limited to 7 weekly flights per side, but thanks to this agreement this limitation is released and they will be able to increase their current frequencies or implement new routes.
This was long-awaited news and since Ecuador Work had been going on for several years with the aim of increasing frequencies due to the interest, especially, of the Ecuadorian airlines themselves, now after the liberation of air transport by Argentina thanks to its new policy Open skies, This need for more frequencies becomes a reality, unlimited.
Open skies between Ecuador and Argentina: unlimited frequencies
The 2 last may, In Quito, the signing of the agreement between both nations was carried out by the undersecretaries of air transport of both countries, where the main change in the agreement, the frequencies become unlimited and the routes between both nations are released.
The Annex Route Chart 1 of the air services agreement between the Republic of Ecuador and the Republic Argentina defines the routes that each country's designated airlines can operate with third-party rights, quarter, fifth and sixth freedoms.
Routes
Regarding the routes, These will be able to operate up to sixth freedom of the air in passengers, cargo and mail and seventh freedoms for exclusive cargo services.
Routes to be operated by the designated airline(s) of the Republic of Ecuador:
- Any previous point, any point in Ecuador, any intermediate point to any point in Argentina and to any point beyond Argentina.
Routes to be operated by the designated airline(s) of the Argentine Republic:
- Any previous point, any point in Argentina, any point intermediate to any point in Ecuador and to any point beyond Ecuador.
Restrictions
- The designated airlines will not be able to operate two points in Ecuadorian territory on the same flight..
- The Galapagos Islands cannot be considered or operated by the designated airlines of the Argentine Republic as a point on the route.
Frequencies
Both Parties agree that their designated airlines may operate without limit of frequencies in combined services with the exercise of third party rights., quarter, fifth and sixth freedom for passengers, cargo and mail combined, and seventh freedom for exclusive cargo, on agreed routes.
Non-regular operations
Each Party shall authorize non-scheduled passenger flights between points where there are no established scheduled air services..
In cases where such regular services exist, Authorizations will be granted on condition that the offer of non-scheduled flights does not jeopardize the economic stability of existing scheduled services.
Exclusive air cargo services
Any designated airline engaged in the international transportation of air cargo will receive non-discriminatory treatment with respect to access to clearance facilities and services., handling, storage and facilitation of cargo.
This is very good news for connectivity for the country, since the increase in frequencies could imply an increase in demand, generating a reduction in fares for passengers.
Passenger transport in the year 2023 between both countries showed a growth of 730.92%, in relation to the previous year 2022. Regarding cargo in the Regular Service, they mobilized 2.338,29 Tm, while in the Non-Regular Service it was transported 6,50 Tm. The seats offered were 36.000 and the requested seats of 16.416; what represents the 45,6% of the demanded capacity according to data from the DGAC statistical bulletin.

There is any news about whether Avianca would switch to a daily flight to Ezeiza or if Latam intends to fly directly.?
I don't see the airlines from Argentina flying here since airlines have the route and don't use it. Flybondi suffers cancellations all the time and maybe Jetsmart could be.
Nothing official, but I would bet that in a short time Avianca especially, will take a step towards having the daily flight to Ezeiza.
