What can improve?
After this year, I have personally identified, the following aspects still key for improvement:
- Single fare integrated with public and municipal surface buses.
- Integration with surface transportation systems to increase demand.
- Sale of passes in stores, pharmacies or others to reduce queue times inside the stations.
- Promote the use of electronic payment methods and improve current ones.
- Unlimited daily or weekly passes with preferential price for national or foreign tourists.
- Air conditioning in trains and wagons.
- Line Extension 1 to La Ofelia and even further north.
- And since we're talking about transportation, A comprehensive improvement to the different surface transportation services is urgently needed.
The most used stations are those in Quitumbe., San Francisco and Labrador, the metro continues looking for ways to increase its demand, that at the moment the authorities indicate that they border Los 140 thousand daily users, very far from what is necessary 400 thousand to be able to reduce losses.

One year of the Quito Metro, Personally, as incredible as it may seem, I have not used it.. The reason is that since there is only one line you cannot adjust your destinations reliably. (multimodal stations are not multimodal). I prefer to use Ecovía, Trolley the Metrobus.
I'm also not going to compare it to when I lived in Boston or New York., because these meters have been in operation for decades.
The issue of air conditioning is not a minor issue, since in the 1950s it was discussed in New York and resolved.. The more time passes, the more difficult it will be to incorporate it..
A metro must always be managed in a technical and non-political way.. Therefore, I hope that with the future of the administrations, improvements are implemented and always with a vision for the future.
