It's been a few weeks since the first information arrived, but this week it was confirmed that the German airline Condor plans to fly to Ecuador from this year 2018, starting flights from 5 October of 2018 with 2 weekly flights from Frankfurt with a stopover in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

UPDATE 21/05/2018

After publication of the Routes Online site, where this medium reported that Condor canceled its intention to fly to Ecuador since October of this year, the day 21 May I was able to confirm directly with authorities that the airline has canceled its plans to fly to Quito this year due to negotiation issues and it is expected that by the year 2019 the intention to fly to Quito is resumed or, in a favorable and exceptional case, the plan for the same is restarted 2018.

Condor flights to Quito Santo Domingo.

The destination Quito as regular has been removed from the airline's website and is no longer found in the GDS system for purchases or reservations. Equally, the 2 additional flights to Santo Domingo that would be extended to Quito have been canceled. It should be remembered that this route even, had been announced by the Ecuadorian Tourism authorities.

Continue the post…

The airline Condor Flugdienst has made public this week its intention to start flights to Ecuador from Germany next year, although still without specifying which city it would arrive, but from first source it was possible to know that approaches have already been made with personnel in Quito so that the operations can be carried out from the International Mariscal Sucre in the capital of Ecuador. Despite the fact that it was already known about this subject with reserved sources, I didn't expect this information to be public yet, since it was revealed by the Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador (I had this post written waiting for more information):

Although it is already public knowledge, The formal request for Condor operations before the CNAC has not yet been found – National Civil Aviation Council of Ecuador, although this could have already been presented, but not published. further, The weekly frequencies with which it will begin its operation to Ecuador are still unknown, nor the specific type of aircraft.

Definitely, the flights would originate either in Frankfurt or Munich, airline's main long-haul operating bases, which would imply once again for Ecuador to have direct flights to Germany (by not changing planes on layover, it is considered direct), after the departure of Lufthansa from the Ecuadorian market years ago.

About the plane with which I could fly to Ecuador, checking his fleet, the only alternative will be the Boeing 767-300ER with which they currently have 16 operational aircraft. Given the distance between Frankfurt and Quito de 6.089 miles, a direct flight would be practically impossible with the Boeing 767-300ER, to the east have a flight range of 5.980 miles, so a stopover would be mandatory for this flight and most likely it will be in one of the destinations in the Caribbean to which Condor flies from Germany. Intermediate flights and connection from airports in the Caribbean is not new for the airline.

About Condor airline

This airline founded in 1955 and that it is part of the Thomas Cook Group, is the third in size and passenger traffic carried in Germany and its business is mainly focused on flights to tourist or holiday destinations with a fleet of 42 aircraft between teams Airbus A320, Airbus A321, Boeing 757 y Boeing 767.

Its international destinations at present are (among other seasonal): Calgary, Halifax, Toronto, Vancouver, Anchorage, Austin, Baltimore, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Cancún, acapulco, Barbados, Saint Joseph, Havana, Montego Bay, Roatan, City of Panama, San Juan. Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, etc.

It should be noted, that the airline to many of its destinations, being tourist, operates only seasonally, This means that it activates its flights according to the high demand of tourists from Germany to the world.. For this same reason, is that the airline could also implement seasonal flights to Ecuador and they will not necessarily be regular throughout the year.

Another issue to take into account is the intermediate scale that yes or yes will be necessary. Playing around with airline destinations, we could speculate that the stopover could be in Punta Cana or Santo Domingo, also attractive destinations for Ecuadorians, so if the airline gets and if the treaties between the 3 countries allow it, Condor could apply for a Fifth Freedom of the Air, with which it could also sell Punta Cana or Santo Domingo tickets – Ecuador – Punta Cana or Santo Domingo and make your new route even more profitable. Another alternative is the connection in some other new destination in the region that may be in plans not yet known by the airline..

We must also take into account the Ecuadorian market and the connection options to the destinations that Condor offers from Frankfurt and Munich for our market..

The flights are already loaded in the GDS of the airline.

Flights to Quito are already loaded on the airline's website, but they are not for sale yet.

¿Por qué la aerolínea Condor se llama así?

A question that surely the Ecuadorian and Latin market will ask with the airline's first destination in the Andes of South America. Incredibly, this name only has a commercial sense and a Condor, it's a great name for an airline, Sure, everyone would think that an airline based in the Andes Mountains should have it, but there is no other reason than to represent oneself and call oneself after that majestic bird that adorns the shield of Ecuador and is representative of South America.

Surely this name will have a strong impact in the Ecuadorian market and if the airline plans to expand in the region, too.
