The airline Avianca Ecuador plans to add an Airbus A321 to its fleet, with the aim of increasing its offer on certain routes due to the increase in demand.
Given the growth that Ecuadorian market has begun to present since the year 2017, Avianca Ecuador has started the process to add a new type of aircraft to its operator permit.
Before the aeronautical authority of the Civil Aviation of Ecuador – DGAC, The airline has requested that the Airbus A321 increase its operating permit as detailed. This request was approved in the last week of July:

Avianca Ecuador requests to modify its Operating Permit for the provision of regular international public passenger air transportation service, cargo and mail combined to “Incorporate Airbus A-321 aircraft into its authorized flight team”.
This same request has also been made for the modification of their operating permits for both flights within the Andean Community, as for your domestic operation, regular passenger, cargo and mail combined.
This aircraft would be the largest operating regular domestic flights in Ecuador at the time it is authorized and incorporated into the fleet.. Remember that LATAM Ecuadorr operates in special situations the Boeing 767-300 when there is any contingency with your Airbus fleet 319, like Tame con su Airbus A330. Too, AeroGal, Before being Avianca, it operated Boeing 757-200 on domestic flights to Guayaquil and Galapagos.
With the approval of the modification of your operating permit, The airline will soon be able to add the first A321 to its fleet.

Avianca as a group, in its fleet it has 13 airplanes of this model. Of these, 11 They are the classic version (with 3.7 years of average age and 3 still pending delivery) and 2 of the newest Airbus A321neo (with 8 months of average age and 15 still pending delivery).
All A321s have United States N registration and are distributed, but rotating, in the HUBs of Bogota, Lima and El Salvador, where flights on an A319 or A320 would not cover demand.
These aircraft are configured in 2 classes with capacity 194 passengers (12 in business and 182 in Economics), powered by 2x CFM56-5 and 2x LEAP engines.
Avianca was the first operator of the Airbus A321neo in Latin America and the second in America.

Designed as a single-aisle aircraft, it was the first to be assembled outside of France and has been the perfect aircraft for Airbus to compete with the now almost out of service Boeing. 757, by offering mid-range autonomy, but a large volume of passengers on board with cutting-edge technology.

The Airbus A321 allows a greater number of passengers, but with less autonomy, which makes it perfect for regional flights with durations of 3 a 5 flight hours.
We hope your quick arrival in the country, where it will surely arrive with foreign registration to take advantage of the new regulation, that will allow rotation of airplanes from Colombia to Ecuador (and other countries) and faster processes for starting operations.
It is still unknown the exact model of the plane with which the A321 operations will be certified in Ecuador or if at some point we will be able to see the neo ones in the country, This will happen in the near future..

Thanks for the information about Avianca El Salvador Nicolás. I did expect Jet Blue to operate with A321 and E190.
American operated the A321 for a few days to GYE.
Good news since the Airbus A321 CEO does not operate nor has it operated in the country with any airline on a regular basis. Destinations like Quito, Guayaquil, Galapagos at the local level are the most in demand and Bogotá is surely the first to debut.
A step forward in Ecuadorian aviation thanks to Avianca with its subsidiary.
The A321 has operated with Avianca Salvador and JetBlue to Ecuador.
