The social air service under the modality air taxi Tame Amazonia ceases operations after 5 years of service.

One 4 July 2014 the first flight took place between Shell Mera and Montalvo of what was a different social aerial project, focused on benefiting more than 100 isolated communities of the Ecuadorian Amazon where many times the only way to get around is by air.

Update 26/04/2019:

the week of 22 april 2019, after a few days of suspension of operations, the project returned to operations after receiving support from the amazonian sector. The details: Tame Amazonia flies again

what was the project

Operating at more than 200 unprepared slopes in the amazon, the social project Tame EP, promoted by the government, was intended to be an economic alternative for the transfer of citizens, cargo and also as an air ambulance for those remote areas in the provinces of Sucumbios, Orellana, pasta, Morona Santiago and Zamora Chinchipe.

Initially contemplated to be a project that has the incorporation of 6 smaller aircraft, the idea was conceptualized and materialized with the first three American-made aircraft Quest Kodiak 100 They arrived totally new from the factory., but that at the time Tame Amazonia closed operations, only two (HC-CPE y HC-CPG) since one had an accident months ago (HC-CPF) and was declared a total loss.

With the first aircraft, The service was provided to a large part of the communities where the project was socialized and important destinations were joined from the main base in Shell Mera and later also from Macas., operating to destinations such as Cumbaratza, Nayantza, The stories, Taisha, Wachir also, Carp, Bufeo, Montalvo, Moretococha, Jaime Roldos, Lorocachi and many others.

This project worked from the beginning as a service subsidized by the State through Tame EP, so their inclusive rates started from the $15 dollars for Amazonians and children, older adults and people with a Conadis card paid half the rate.

The real cost of the tickets was around $82 Dollars, so the rate had an important item covered by Tame EP, that annually between the concept of subsidy, Aircraft maintenance, operation and personnel meant values higher than those $3 million dollars and given the known economic situation of the State airline, would be the main reason for closing the operations of Tame Amazonia after 5 years of operations serving the most isolated communities in the country.

It was planned at the time to connect the commercial flights of Tame EP with the Amazon subsidiary in Shell Mera or Coca to make the project profitable with the transport of national and foreign tourists, but it never materialized, reducing in the long run the permanence in the time of the project.

The end of a noble project that had highly trained personnel between technical, operational and administrative that closed its operations with a last flight between Shell Mera and Kapawi.

The future of Kodiak aircraft 100

Before the closure of Tame Amazonia, society and inhabitants of the area will be able in a short time, have a similar service again, but this time it will come hand in hand with the full return of TAE – Economic Air Transport of the Ecuadorian Air Force, fate of the 2 Quest Kodiak 100 operative.

The two aircraft will be transferred to Latacunga from Shell Mera to carry out scheduled maintenance work and mainly, painting to adapt them to their new operator, that will receive it under the concept of transfer of public good between two State institutions.

Amazon air service

With the departure of Tame Amazonia, the communities still have private air taxi services operating from Shell Mera, maca and coke, although their costs are higher, but they are available to serve the community.

It is important to redevelop an Amazonian social service, knowing the difficulties of reaching the main cities of eastern Ecuador and TAE would be the state response to this need.

We will report the progress of TAE and the return to operation of the Quest Kodiak 100 now under management of the FAE.

  1. Bumping into the TAME theme, please when it comes into operation again the 320 which was under maintenance??? And thus have the entire fleet that TAME currently has.

  2. That is why tame was created many years ago as a dependency of the air force as TRANSPORTES AÉREOS MILITARES ECUATORIANOS TAME, which then felt the desire to compete in the commercial market with great advantages.. Then they abandoned these routes and today they finish the Amazon. They should maintain service with affordable social service prices without exaggerating low prices because otherwise the government would have to provide very high subsidies. ALL ECUADORIANS SHOULD BENEFIT FROM AIR TRANSPORTATION and the state must help those remote regions. But it is not possible for another service to be created in the FAE because it would be starting a new tame
