Passenger traffic of airlines operating in Latin America and the Caribbean grew 3,9% on 2019 compared to the previous year.
The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (HIGH) reports that Latin American and Caribbean airlines transported 307,3 million passengers in 2019, a 3,9% plus (O 11,5 million additional passengers) than the previous year.
The traffic (RPK) grew up 3,6% and the capacity (ASK) increase 3,3%, raising the load factor to 81,8%, 0,2 percentage points more than in 2018. The number of passengers transported during December 2019 increase 0,8% compared to the same month last year, arriving to 26,8 million passengers.
Traffic to and from Latin America and the Caribbean
Latin American and Caribbean airlines transported 30,9 million passengers to and from Latin America and the Caribbean in 2019, a 2,8% more than the previous year. The traffic (RPK) increase 5,3% and the capacity (ASK) increase 4,2%, bringing the load factor to 82,9%.

Regarding the main markets to and from the region, The United States maintains leadership with 79.6% of traffic, followed by Europe with the 17.5%, Asia-Pacific with the 2.3%, Africa with the 0.4% and closes the Middle East with the 0.2%, highlighting that these last two markets are relatively new and have presented interesting growth percentages.
Domestic Trafficking
Latin American and Caribbean airlines transported 232,2 million domestic passengers 2019, a 4,8% more than the previous year. The traffic (RPK) grew up 4,5% and the capacity (ASK) increase 4,7%, bringing the load factor to 81,2%.
International Traffic
Latin American and Caribbean airlines transported 75 million international passengers in 2019, of which 44,1 million were international passengers within the region and 30,9 million outside the region. Argentina – Brazil was the most important intraregional market, while Mexico – EE. UU. It was the most important extra-regional market.

The market between Argentina and Brazil remains the most important intraregional traffic, but there was a drop in -7.1%, traffic between Argentina – Chile -14.9% and Argentina – Peru -14.4%. While other markets like Chile – Peru grew 14.5% and Ecuador – Panama the 14.2%.

Finally in extra-regional markets, Mexico – The United States is the main market and grew with the 2.8% and another great growth presented the market between Canada – Mexico with the 21.8% and Brazil – Portugal with the great 105.5%.
