Today I am going to share with you the journey of a day that I did in the beautiful city of Cuenca, where I could see several of its tourist attractions.
Few days ago, after the inaugural flight Avianca Ecuador from Quito to Cuenca, I was invited to participate in a tour of several hours through the main tourist attractions of this city organized by Fundación Turismo Cuenca.
Definitely, I visited a few places, since Cuenca offers many more points of interest than I will tell you about here, so this is just a taste of how much can be done, where I recommend to be minimum 3 days and 2 nights to enjoy this city to the fullest.
Cuenca and its tourist attractions
I am going to show you in chronological order what you can do in one day in Cuenca since you landed in this city., in case one day they have the opportunity and little time to visit.
Cuenca Tram
Crossing the street after leaving the Mariscal La Mar Airport Airport station is located, from which they can arrive from between 5 a 10 minutes to the Historic Center of Cuenca.
They can also travel beyond the center on the Tram, a new public transport system that works very well. Is ordered, cleansed, safe, you can move with your bike and it even tells you how long the next train arrives.
Schedules
- The tram runs from 06:00 until 22:00 hours.
Cost
- A ticketed trip $1.00
- A travel card $0.35
- Multi-trip rate with card (5 travels) on $0.30 each.
How to use?
- The card can be purchased, that must be purchased one per person or by paying for individual trips on the screens available at each stop.
Alcazar Mansion
After the tram ride, we arrived at the Alcázar Mansion where we were able to enjoy its facilities. A good place for breakfast, but it should be noted that Cuenca has a great gastronomic option for all tastes and budgets.
A colonial mansion transformed into a hotel, that maintains its classic essence and beautiful gardens full of flowers and plants make it a recommended point to spend some time, have a coffee and relax before continuing touring Cuenca.
Walk through the Historic Center
Without a doubt, the highest point in Cuenca is to walk through its well-kept historic center, where there are churches on every corner, heritage house, museums and squares, so you can spend several hours discovering every corner of this area.

I also share with you this video that I made with shots of several of the places we visited that day:

Victoria Hotel
This is a traditional hotel in Cuenca that maintains its traditional essence, that in addition to offering a picturesque environment, allows us to have a beautiful view of the Tomebamba River, one of the four rivers that cross the city.

Here we were able to rest after several kilometers of walking through the center of Cuenca, we enjoyed several traditional dishes such as guinea pig and fritada, along with other dishes of the delicious and not yet so exploited Ecuadorian food.
Cuenca Public Bike
after lunch, it's time to wash down the food with a little exercise. It was thus that we participated in a bike ride on the banks of the Tomebamba River thanks to the Cuenca public bicycle project.

With 20 stations distributed throughout the city, this is a good alternative for getting around the city for the general public, even regardless of fitness, since in general, Cuenca does not have so many steep streets and everything will depend on the route or destination you want to reach..
Schedules
- The stations work every day of 06:00 until 20:00 hours.
Cost
- Registration value $3,00 USD
- Value per trip $0.25 USD
- value per day $10,00 USD (Unlimited travel time within service hours)
- value per 3 months $15,00 USD
- value for one year $30,00 USD
How to use?
- With the smartphone app
- With the “CUENCA PUBLIC BIKE” card:
- Through the station using the touch panel, following the same mobile phone application release procedure.
I hope you liked this brief tour of Cuenca, which has enormous tourism potential, much to exploit and offer to local and international tourists.
