The new high-wing, twin-engined utility turboprop aircraft Cessna SkyCourier obtained FAA type certification.
Textron Aviation announced that the Federal Aviation Administration – FAA has granted type certification for the new multi-mission twin-engine turboprop Cessna SkyCourier. Using a clean sheet design and advanced manufacturing processes, the production line of the high-wing aircraft is underway and the first unit will soon enter the market with the launch customer FedEx Express.
Cessna SkyCourier ready to fly
three planes SkyCourier accumulated more than 2100 hours throughout the flight test program, which formally began with a maiden flight in May 2020. The company launched the first production unit of the SkyCourier earlier this year at the company's Wichita manufacturing facility..
Launch customer FedEx Express agreed to an initial fleet order of 50 cargo planes and options for 50 plus. FedEx Express participated in the Textron Aviation Customer Advisory Council along with other fleet operators to help shape the design, the characteristics and serviceability of the aircraft.
About the SkyCourier
Cessna SkyCourier twin-engine high-wing turboprop offers a combination of performance and lower operating costs for air cargo operators, passengers and special missions. In addition to the upload version, there is a variant of 19 SkyCourier passengers including separate crew and passenger entrances for seamless boarding, as well as large cabin windows for natural light and views. Both configurations offer single point pressurized refueling to enable faster response times.
The aircraft is powered by two Pratt turboprop engines. & Whitney PT6A-65SC wing-mounted and features the McCauley C779 propeller, a four-bladed aluminum propeller 110 inches, reliable and heavy duty, which is fully articulated with reversible step, designed to improve the performance of the aircraft during the transport of large loads. The SkyCourier is powered by Garmin G1000 NXi avionics.
It has a maximum cruising speed of more than 200 knots and a maximum range of 900 nautical miles. The plane features a large door and a flat-floor cabin, and the cargo version can hold up to three LD3 shipping containers with an impressive payload capacity of 6,000 pounds.
