Ecuador marks one year of the reactivation of the airline industry within a pandemic context, being an example for the region.
the first of June 2020, Ecuador became the first country, of those who had fully closed their regular operations, in giving way to the slow Recovery.
Said recovery advances, in slow steps, but with a course towards recovering the figures and airlines that until the 2019 operated in the country, in what was historic in terms of connectivity.
Celebrating this milestone, the Quito airport has shared some statistics and data about it, which I am going to share with you:
Between 1 June 2020 and the 31 May 2021, They moved through the airport Quito a total of 1 151 826 passengers on departing and arriving flights, National and international. The monthly average number of passengers in this period was 95 985 passengers, that is to say a 77% lower than the monthly average registered before the pandemic (418 614 passengers).
Of the total number of travelers, 592 192 correspond to international flights, while 559 634 passengers were transported on domestic flights.
The recovery of passenger volume has been gradual, but constant. in June 2020, through the capital airport they transited 19 664 passengers and for May 2021, a total of 163 082 people used the air terminal.
Regarding connectivity, have been restored approximately 80% of the frequencies with which the airport operated before the pandemic. Of the 17 direct international destinations that were reached from Quito, have resumed 11: amsterdam, Atlanta, Madrid, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Miami, Mexico City, Panama, San Salvador, Bogota and Lima.
similarly, from 18 international airlines that flew in 2019, 12 airlines operate again at the Quito airport.
Regarding national traffic, seven destinations within the country have been restored, of the nine that existed before the health crisis: Guayaquil, Baltra, San Cristobal, Cuenca, Manta, shop and coke. Three airlines provide the service of domestic commercial passenger flights.
As far as 2021, We have seen the increase in frequencies by Iberia, United, Aeromexico and American Airlines, capacity increase by airlines such as Delta or the prospects for new flights with Eastern and others.
It's been baby steps, but that allow to shore up the recovery of one of the industries most affected globally, who works every day to get ahead in a highly complex economic scenario.

Hi Nicolas, how are you?
I would like to know if you have data on passengers transported per month during the 2021.
I can't find it on the DGAC pages, neither in INEC.
Greetings
It is generally published in the fall year.
