Renew US visa without interview
As we have seen in recent times, The conditions to obtain the privilege of a visa to the United States are changing drastically, with more requirements and higher costs too. Within these modifications, the exemption from an interview for renewal will have changes and will be almost mandatory for everyone, except:
- Applicants classified under the A-1 visa symbols, A-2, C-3 (except assistants, servants or personal employees of accredited officials), G-1, G-2, G-3, G-4, NATO-1 to NATO-6, the TECRO E-1;
- Applicants for diplomatic or official visas; Applicants renewing a B-1 visa, B-2, B1/B2 with full validity or a Border Crossing Card/Foil (for Mexican citizens) within the 12 months after the expiration of the previous visa, and that they had at least 18 years at the time of issuance of the previous visa.
To be eligible for an interview waiver based on the third point above (applicants renewing a B-1 visa, B-2, B1/B2 with full validity or a Border Crossing Card/Foil for Mexican citizens), Applicants must also meet certain criteria, including:
- Apply in your country of nationality or residence;
- They have never been denied a visa (unless such denial has been overcome or condoned); and
- Have no apparent or potential ineligibility.
- Consular officials may still require in-person interviews, case by case, for any reason. Applicants should consult embassy and consulate websites for more detailed information on visa application requirements and procedures., as well as to learn more about the operational status and services of the embassy or consulate.
This replaces the Interview Waiver Update of the 18 February 2025.
In summary, To renew your visa without an interview you must meet ALL the requirements:
- You are renewing a tourist visa with full validity (10 years).
- It expired less than 12 months.
- You had at least 18 years when the visa was issued.
- You are applying in your country of habitual residence.
The minors of 14 years and older 79 years are no longer exempt from interview. From 2 September 2025, must appear physically for an interview with a consular officer.
Visas approved before 2 September will have no changes, although a consular officer may request an interview at any time.
With these parameters, I recommend that you pay close attention to communication from the local consulate., prevent their visa from expiring more than 12 months and complete the process in your country of residence.
