We review the actuality of Airbus Helicopters on Latin America with a focus on the small, But growing, Market of the Ecuador.

I was present in Guayaquil en el Safety Road Show 2025 organized by Airbus with the objective of strengthening the operational safety culture in the country's aeronautical sector.

In this important context, I was able to speak exclusively with Guillaume Leprince, General Director of Airbus Helicopters on Mexico, offered a comprehensive view of the company's situation in Latin America, With a special approach in the Ecuadorian market. I share this conversation and interesting facts about our market.

Airbus Helicopters in Latin America

Airbus Helicopters maintains solid leadership in the region, with a strong presence in key countries such as Brazil and Mexico. The company has support centers for its clients, which has allowed it to maintain a stable sales situation in recent months. According to Leprince, Brazil is the company's largest market in Latin America and have an important presence in Mexico and Chile as leading markets.

The importance of Ecuador

Ecuador has been a strategic partner for Airbus Helicopters for more than 50 years. The company has forged a relationship of trust with the country, where air operations have improved. Currently, the Airbus helicopter fleet in Ecuador amounts to more than 30 units, the majority operating with the Armed Forces and the National Police, in addition to some private operators.

Among the most outstanding products in the country are:

  • H125: This single engine is very popular and adapts well to the climatic and geographical conditions of Ecuador, with its mountains and the coast.
  • H145: A latest generation twin engine, ideal for population support and disaster response missions. Its importance was evident in recent emergency situations.
  • H225: The new generation "Super Puma", known for its great load and versatility capacity. The Ecuadorian Army acquired two of these aircraft at the beginning of 2024, with three more on the way.

Leprince highlighted that the government and local operators of Ecuador have shown interest in expanding their fleet. The company proposes products that already have a presence in the country, As the H125 and the H145, since they are convinced that they are the ones that best fit local needs.

Regarding innovation, Airbus Helicopters continues to improve its products with new technologies focused on security. An example of this is the recent presentation of the H140, an aircraft in production that is expected to be delivered in the coming years, demonstrating the company's commitment to the constant evolution of its technology.
