THERE IT IS reported on the results of world air traffic for last September, highlighting the growth in international travel demand and the boost in domestic connectivity in Brazil.

The International Air Transport Association (THERE IT IS) has published its data on global passenger demand for September 2025, revealing that the airline sector maintains solid growth, driven mainly by the international market.

September continued with an upward trend

Total passenger demand (measured in RPK – passenger kilometers per revenue) experienced a year-on-year increase in 3,6% in september 2025. A key fact is that the capacity (measured in ASK – kilometers of available seats) grew slightly faster, with a 3,7%.

The Director General of IATA, Willie Walsh, pointed out that the 90% of the overall growth of 3,6% came from strong international demand.

"Although capacity expansion slightly exceeded demand growth in a 3,7%, Load factors remained very strong at 83.4%,” commented Walsh.. "With November flight schedules indicating an expansion of 3% Over the previous year, Airlines are preparing for continued growth heading into the holiday season, "despite severe limitations due to unresolved supply chain issues."

Regional performance

All regions experienced growth in international traffic (RPK), highlighting the following results:

  • Pacific Asia: Led growth with an increase in 7,4% on the demand, driven primarily by travel within Asia (+9,4%), particularly from China and Japan. What's more, was the only region with a significant improvement in load factor, going up +1,0 percentage point (pps) until the 83,3%.
  • middle East: A sharp increase in 6,3% on the demand.
  • Latin America and Africa: Both regions recorded an increase in 5,3% on the demand.
  • Europe: grew a 4,0%.
  • North America: It had the lowest international growth with a 2,5%, and experienced notable weakness in the North America-Asia corridor (+0,9%).

Domestic markets

Global domestic demand had more modest growth than 0,9%. The regional situation is notably uneven:

  • Brazil continues to lead the way, with double-digit demand expansion 12,1%.
  • China also showed strong domestic growth 5,0%.
  • By contrast, the drop in US domestic travel. UU. accelerated to -1,7%, marking the lowest load factor in the main domestic markets (80,2%).

September 2025 shows that the appetite for air travel, especially internationally, still robust. Despite persistent supply chain challenges limiting capacity, Airlines are preparing for a strong end to the year.

Will the trend continue until the end of the year?
