The airline Avianca has implemented changes to its baggage policy, including from now on in all your rates on international flights, a hand suitcase.

Avianca has been implementing a deep transformation in its service model, looking for a middle point between a traditional airline (Legacy) and a low cost one (Low Cost).

Since today is 30 of January of 2026, many of these changes have just come into effect or have recently been consolidated.

Changes in Avianca's baggage policy

Here I detail the most important changes applied to their service, the first being the most notable and new of these modifications to their business model.:

  1. Recent baggage changes (Very important!):
Just a few days ago (for purchases from 27 of January of 2026), Avianca adjusted its hand luggage policy on international routes:

    1. hand luggage (10 kg) on all rates: A carry-on suitcase is now included 10 kg in all international rates, even in the lowest (as basic), which previously only allowed one personal item (small backpack).
    2. domestic flights: On routes within Colombia and Ecuador, the lowest rates (basic) They still include only the personal item, unless you purchase a higher rate or pay for that extra.
      2. New structure of “Business Class Americas”: Although this is not new and I already reported it days ago,
Avianca has reintroduced and strengthened its business class on single-aisle aircraft (the A320s that fly within the continent), moving away from the “economic only” model they tried previously. Now this service is available on all national and international routes where single-aisle aircraft operate..

More changes are expected in the coming days to weeks, I can even anticipate that, some rinternational routes They have begun to see the completely free food and drink service active again for all passengers, a radical change that puts back the legacy model that people have been asking for Avianca since its change after pandemic.

What other changes will we see?? New seats? More space? Only time will tell, but what is concrete is that Avianca has listened to its passengers and is making the necessary adjustments to allow it to remain an option to fly in America.

We will keep reporting.
