For the first time since 2021, air traffic Latin America and the Caribe was reduced by a 2,3%, almost a million fewer passengers traveled in June.
in June 2026, air passenger traffic from, to and within Latin America and the Caribe reached 37,3 million passengers, a year-on-year drop of 2,3%, equivalent to 893 a thousand fewer passengers. It was the first monthly year-on-year contraction recorded by the region since 2021. The three traffic segments closed in negative territory and Brazil, Mexico and Colombia registered falls in the same month. Despite the June result, the first semester closed with 242,8 million passengers, 3,4% more than in the same period of 2025.
Demand fell in June
Many factors influenced, since the rise in fuel prices and the alteration in the normal flow of passengers generated by the world 2026:
- The capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), increase 0,9% interannual.
- The demand, measured in passenger-kilometers transported (RPK), decreased 1,0%.
- The average load factor was located at 81,6%, 1,6 percentage points below June 2025.
Air traffic in June 2026: main results
- Regional air traffic reached 37,3 million passengers in June.
- Fell 2,3% vs. june 2025, equivalent to 893 a thousand fewer passengers. It was the first monthly year-on-year contraction since 2021.
- The drop extended to all three traffic segments.
- Domestic traffic decreased 2,0%, the intraregional international 3,0% and the extra-regional international 2,7%.
- Brazil, Mexico and Colombia closed the month in negative territory.
- The three largest markets in the region concentrated around 65% of total traffic and transported together 517 thousand fewer passengers than in June 2025.
- Mexico and Argentina recorded the largest reductions.
- Mexico lost 293 thousand passengers (-3,0%), mainly in the international market. Argentina transported 238 a thousand fewer passengers (-10,1%), with a drop of 17,0% in domestic traffic.
- Panama and the Dominican Republic offset part of the losses.
- Panama grew 10,9% and added 187 thousand passengers, while the Dominican Republic increased 6,1% and added 99 thousand passengers.
- Capacity increased while demand decreased.
- The ASKs grew 0,9% and the RPK fell 1,0%. Load factor fell 1,6 percentage points and was located in 81,6%.
- The first semester maintained a positive result.
- Between January and June, the region mobilized 242,8 million passengers, 3,4% more than in the same period of 2025. This is equivalent to 8 million additional passengers.
