The Galapagos Ecological Airport incorporates the Sunflower initiative to offer a more empathetic travel experience, accessible and inclusive to passengers who may require time, additional understanding or assistance.

The Baltra Seymour Airport, main aerial gateway to the Galapagos Islands, continues to strengthen its airport management model by integrating accessibility and human sense within its sustainability strategy. In an event that included the participation of different actors from the airport community, the terminal announced its official accession to the international network Hidden Disabilities Sunflower.

This global initiative is designed to enable people with disabilities or non-visible conditions—such as autism, anxiety disorders, dementia or partial hearing and visual disabilities—can voluntarily identify themselves by wearing a badge with the image of a sunflower.

A more empathetic and inclusive travel experience

During the presentation event, Sarah Santana, Airport Human Resources Manager, He stressed that the use of the badge does not seek to reveal specific diagnoses nor does it require the passenger to give explanations about their condition.. On the contrary, represents a discreet and respectful tool to communicate to ground staff and crews that the traveler may require more time, patience, additional understanding or assistance during check-in processes, security and boarding filters.

Adherence to the Sunflower program is strictly voluntary, both for users who choose to wear the sunflower lanyard or ribbon and for the airport community, which is committed to recognizing the symbol and providing an environment adapted to your needs.

Environmental sustainability and human dimension in Baltra

With this addition, Baltra joins a global network made up of more than 220 airports around the world. The initiative was born in 2016 at Gatwick Airport (LGW) in London and has rapidly expanded to mass transportation systems, shopping centers and international institutions.

For the island terminal, pioneer in environmental sustainability after being the first green airport in the world certified LEED Gold, The measure expands the concept of sustainable development by incorporating the social and inclusive dimension. In an infrastructure that operates with water autonomy, 100% of natural air conditioning and renewable energy to serve more than 527.000 annual passengers in a fragile ecosystem, Universal accessibility aligns with the comprehensive vision of modern airport service.
