In this installment we will learn more details about the operation of Qatar Airways and its cargo flights to Quito that operate in Ecuador from the 16 from December to 2016.

Qatar Airways' first flight with its cargo subsidiary took place in mid-December 2016 and at about 11 in the morning, after a stopover in Buenos Aires and starting at the Doha International Airport, the airline's base, as a charter operation where it had the purpose of testing the operability of the plane and the Quito Mariscal Sucre International Airport.

That first flight was a complete success and it took a short time for the airline to become one of the cargo airlines that operate in Ecuador on a regular basis and is the second airline from the Middle East to operate in the country, the first was Emirates Sky Cargo.

Qatar Cargo operation

Since May 2019 the airline was authorized to operate until 7 weekly flights modifying their original route and adding new intermediate points, staying as follows: Doha – Luxembourg – Houston – The Angels – New York – Chicago – Atlanta – Dallas – Pittsburgh – Miami – Mexico – Curacao – Panama – Puerto Rico – São Paulo – Buenos Aires – Montevideo – Santiago – Lima – Bogota – Quito and return for the same previous points. These points, the exception of Doha, can change according to need and where the load is located, which generates flexibility and profitability, key and differentiator of the cargo business. For instance, on some occasions, after Quito the flight instead of Miami, fly to curacao.

Since the beginning of operations, the airline operated until 5 weekly flights, and the increase to 7 demonstrates the strong demand for Ecuadorian products in the Arab countries and in the intermediate points where the plane goes up and down load.

The airline's regular operating permit specifies that it will operate with Boeing 777-FDZ cargo aircraft, but also before the National Civil Aviation Council of Ecuador – CNAC was authorized to incorporate Boeing aircraft into its operating permit 747, of which Qatar Cargo has 2 of the newer models version -8F.

Until now, the Boeing 747-8F has not operated to Ecuador, but the moment it is done, will mean an increase in 200 cubic meters of cargo that can potentially be taken from Ecuador to the world, since the Boeing 777F transports up to 653 m³ of load, while the Boeing 747-8F until 854,5 m³, a necessary increase given the growing exports from Ecuador and also from the other countries where the plane makes or will make a stopover.

  1. Hello my dears I am Edgar from Atilogistics I need to know your phone numbers to request costs for cargo shipments urg urg thank you

  2. It seems very good to me that Ecuadorian flower exports continue to increase and Qatar offers greater capacity by mentioning that it would operate with the B747-8F.

On the other hand, it seems to me that the cargo terminal has the capacity to receive type E and F aircraft.. However, the recent expansion of months ago will soon fall short if instead of B777F as Qatar would operate B747-8F plus the other B747-8F of Atlas Air, Cargolux, ABC, etc.. are parked simultaneously.

Nicholas, Do you know if another alternative cargo terminal is being built or will be built next to the runway?? Because I have seen that there is land removal and something is going to be built.

    Kind regards.

    Carlos.
