This will be the contingency of the airlines closure of Guayaquil Airport which begins on the last Saturday of August and first Sunday of September.

For general maintenance of the asphalt layer of the runway 21/03 of the José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport of the City of Guayaquil, the commercial aviation terminal, general aviation and all operations, except helicopters, will be totally suspended for 4 weekends in a row like We reviewed previously in this post.

Contingency

On these dates and times starting in August until the penultimate weekend of September, the airport will not have any flights:

  • From the 31 from August to 02 September 2019.
  • From 07 from September to 09 September 2019.
  • From 14 from September to 16 September 2019.
  • From 21 from September to 23 September 2019.

For this reason, Airlines have made modifications to their itineraries for those days, leaving the operation of your flights as follows:

    • Canceled flights to Quito those 4 weekend, flights to San Cristóbal and Baltra redirected to Quito.
  • Avianca Ecuador

    • Canceled flights to Quito those 4 weekend, flights to San Cristóbal and Baltra redirected to Quito.
  • LATAM Ecuador

    • Canceled flights to Quito those 4 weekend, flights to San Cristóbal and Baltra redirected to Quito.

international

  • Avianca

    • Canceled flights to Bogotá, Lima and Cali in those 4 weekend.
  • LATAM Airlines

    • Canceled flights to Lima, New York and Madrid in those 4 weekend.
  • Tame

    • During the 4 weekend, The flight will operate from Quito to Fort Lauderdale, returning via Guayaquil as the flight normally operates.
  • Copa Airlines

    • Flights canceled those 4 weekend.
  • Conviasa

    • Flights canceled those 4 weekend.
  • KLM

    • Flights canceled those 4 weekend. During this month, KLM will operate only 5 weekly flights to Quito, operating via Curacao on its return flight to Amsterdam.
  • American Airlines

    • Flights to Miami canceled those 4 weekend.
  • Spirit Airlines

    • Flights to Fort Lauderdale canceled 4 weekend.
  • JetBlue

Recommendation, if you had a flight on the indicated dates, your airline should have already informed you about the changes to your itinerary, advancing or delaying your flight and even, refunding the value of your ticket if applicable.

It is estimated that there will be more than 120 commercial flights canceled every weekend, plus the entire general aviation operation that will not be able to operate either.
