Can you imagine that an airplane in case of emergency can to land only after activating a button? The Cirrus Vision Jet aircraft can make it happen.
A new step towards further improving aviation safety in the industry has been taken by the North American company Cirrus Aircraft by presenting the Safe Return Emergency Autoland System.
Although it is now well known that planes can already land in one way or another on their own, this system is revolutionary, since by pressing a button, the plane will do everything.
Current systems based on the ILS – Instrumental Landing System y su CAT III upwards, allow the plane to land, but with an important burden and human responsibility.
Safe return
Cirrus Aircraft ushers in a new era of innovation with the introduction of Safe Return, a revolutionary automatic emergency landing system that allows passengers to land the Vision JetTM with the push of a single button.
Once activated when available, Safe Return assumes control of the aircraft and transforms the Vision Jet into an autonomous vehicle that navigates to the nearest suitable airport for landing, communicates with air traffic control, land and stop the aircraft safely.
El Vision Jet, with Safe Return and the award-winning Cirrus Airframe Parachute System® (CAPS®), provides a comprehensive security solution, essential and exclusive for G2 Vision Jet operators.
Safe Return offers the next step towards autonomous flight, bringing a new level of confidence to the overall flight experience by providing the highest level of safety and control to passengers.
Functioning
once pressed, the autonomous system analyzes the terrain and weather to determine the optimal airport for landing, and simultaneously begins communication with the Air Traffic Control (ATC).
Powered by Perspective Touch Flight Deck + TM de Garmin®, Safe Return uses all available aircraft data sources, including available fuel, to safely navigate the Vision Jet to the identified airport and proceed to final approach for the appropriate runway based on wind data
Autothrottle, released earlier this year on the new G2 Vision Jet, and the automatic flight control system manages the speed, aircraft altitude and trajectory, while the system automatically lowers the flaps as needed and the landing gear.
Safe Return culminates in the fully autonomous aircraft landing on the intended runway and coming to a complete stop, allowing passengers to exit the aircraft.
Safe Return communication immediately transmits an emergency message to ATC. Using text and voice technology, the system communicates the aircraft's intentions on the appropriate ATC frequency, emergency voice frequency 121.5, and also change to universal emergency transponder code.
These communications begin the process of activating the emergency services at the airport of intended landing to assist the passenger and pilot upon arrival..
Activation by mistake
Depending on the situation, the button could be accidentally activated by a passenger or crew member, but Safe Return can be easily disconnected by the pilot by simply pressing the autopilot disconnect button to continue the flight as normal.
At the beginning of this year, Cirrus Aircraft introduced and began delivering the G2 Vision Jet, that offers performance, improved comfort and safety with higher altitude, cruising speed and range, and a Perspective Touch flight deck + Newly Enhanced Garmin® TM.
The company expects to begin delivering Safe Return-equipped Vision Jets in early 2020.
