At the Taura Air Base, the Military Ceremony was held for the 25 years of the Aerial Victory of Cenepa and Combat Aviation Day, where awards were given to the staff of the Ecuadorian Air Force which has obtained new operational qualifications and the delivery of the insignia patch of the Aerial Victory of the Cenepa to the Chief of the General Staff FAE and Commanders of the Great Commands, the same ones that will be used in the uniform by military personnel in memory of this important historical event for Ecuador.

Aerial victory at Cenepa

Part of this ceremony was the aerial recreation of the event of that 10 February 1995, remembering the heroes who forged the history of our country.

Within this framework I was invited to travel to the Taura Air Base to be part of this important celebration of what was the first supersonic aerial combat of Latin America.

I share some images of this military ceremony attended by the Minister of Defense, Major General on Passive Duty, Oswaldo Jarrin, accompanied by the Military High Command of the Armed Forces., civil authorities, Air Victory heroes and special guests.

The Cheetah FAE-1346 had a brief appearance to simulate the scramble situation for the immediate takeoff of aircraft due to the presence of enemy aircraft in Ecuadorian territory.

The events that occurred 10 February 1995 were decisive for the definitive cessation of hostilities, which allowed to establish peace between brother countries, ratifying the commitment of the ladies and gentlemen of the air in the fulfillment of the institutional mission of protecting the Ecuadorian air space.

During the conflict, the Amazonas Air Group was formed, made up of A-37-B Dragons aircraft, who had the mission of controlling the airspace of Alto Cenepa, as well as, support for surface forces throughout this sector, including the Cordillera del Condor.
It is from here that the day 07/02/1995 executed the first bombardment of FAE aircraft to Peruvian surface forces that had wanted to usurp our territory. It was on one of these missions when a
A-37-B was hit by a missile from the Peruvian surface forces, but thanks to the professionalism, determination, bravery and courage of our Pilots, the plane could be landed, subsequently repaired thanks to the knowledge and experience of our aeronautical technicians and immediately returned to flight.
At the end of the conflict that plane would be baptized as Twinza.
The Amazon Air Group, fulfilled more than 35 real bombing missions to Peruvian Forces.
And from here came a group of combat pilots called "NANTAR" and as an icon we wore the Skinheads at the time of the conflict., to commemorate that we had the opportunity to fulfill the dream of every Fighter Pilot, defend our Territorial Inheritance.

  2. As one of the Helipet MI17 pilots, I was 35 days in Gualaquiza carrying troops, armament, wounded, iwias, journalists, etc without having crew relief, flying sometimes ill vole more than 40 hours and when you want I have all the passenger records in my flight book, load, weight, route...The CPCCS denied recognition as heroes five years ago...perhaps because it was a civil helicopter, we still defy the enemy ..
