The airline Emirates SkyCargo made a flight only with women to Mexico City and Quito, covering 6 cities in 4 continents before International Women's Day.
The Women increasingly contribute to the aviation industryn around the world and also directly support global exchanges in various areas facilitated by aviation, like international trade. On the occasion of International Women's Day, Emirates highlights one aspect of how women in aviation support economies and touch lives around the world.
With stops on four continents on the Boeing cargo plane 777 from Emirates SkyCargo. Captain Ellen Roz of the United States and First Officer Heidi McDiarmid of Australia covered nearly 30,000km in 10 days on five cargo flights from Frankfurt to Mexico City, following towards Quito, Aguadilla, Amsterdam and finally to Dubai transporting more than 300 tons of cargo ranging from fresh flowers and fruits to pharmaceuticals. The two pilots were also joined by Captain Heather Wolf of Canada to operate the flight from Frankfurt to Mexico City..
Women in the Emirates
Women make up more than 40% of the total workforce at Emirates with the majority working as cabin crew. Emirates female pilots come from more than 30 nationalities, covering an age range between 23 a 62 years.
women over 160 nationalities, included more than 1.100 emirates, are employed across the Emirates Group in operational roles including flight operations, engineering, aircraft maintenance and maintenance, restoration, loading and ramp operations; in customer-facing roles in airport services, sales and customer affairs and corporate roles across all business support functions
Women-only flight
Unlike passenger operations, Emirates cargo flights are dedicated to the transportation of cargo and do not always originate and terminate in Dubai. Instead, flights cover multiple origins and destinations in rotations lasting several days. This allows additional flexibility in loading operations along with the ability to quickly and efficiently load from where it is produced to the markets where customers require it..

What's more, Emirates cargo planes also operate to destinations not covered by passenger flights. Ecuador, for instance, It's one of the largest flower markets in the world and is a cargo-only destination on the Emirates global network.
Emirates cargo plane transports fresh cut flowers from Quito to Amsterdam via Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. This ensures that the flowers are transported more quickly from Ecuador to the Netherlands than if the flight had to travel to Dubai and then continue from Dubai to Amsterdam.
More of 75 tons of fresh flowers were transported on cargo flights operated by Captain Roz and First Officer McDiarmid from Quito to Aguadilla and from Aguadilla to Amsterdam. Emirates cargo flights from Quito create a direct channel for exports from the Ecuadorian floriculture industry to Amsterdam, the largest flower distribution center in the world. This supports the local economy in Ecuador and the livelihood of more than 100,000 people in the country who work to grow and harvest flowers.
Cargo flights also allow the rapid transport of products such as life-saving medicines from the place where they are manufactured to patients who may urgently need them for treatment.. Nearly 10 tons of valuable pharmaceuticals were transported on the cargo flight from Frankfurt to Mexico City operated by the all-female flight crew.
