Can passengers bring their own disinfectant? Be alcohol, alcohol-gel, wipes or soap on the hand luggage, here we have the answer.
This is a general question that many of you have asked me in the last few days in my social networks and it seemed very, very valid and fundamental to clarify in this space.
A few weeks ago I was able to fly with the new norm and in it I showed them that I brought my own alcohol-gel and as you know, there are limitations on what type of items can be carried in hand luggage in the passenger cabin and the regulation on liquids is very clear:
- Liquids, gels or similar in packages of up to 100 ml each.
- These liquids must go inside a transparent plastic bag with an opening / closing system and that its capacity does not exceed 1 liter with size of 20 x 20 cm.
- One bag per passenger.
However, the articles that enter this category are the following:
- Water and other drinks.
- Soups, syrups and baby food.
- Creams, pastas (including toothpaste), lotions and oils.
- Perfumes for personal use.
- Types of gel like shampoo, shower or soap.
- Any other substance of similar consistency.
Can I carry disinfectant in my hand luggage?
Finally, let's answer the question, But first it is important to indicate that this doubt arises as the disinfectant alcohol is a flammable liquid due to its degree, but it is allowed in the cabin:
- You can bring alcohol, alcohol-gel or disinfectant towels in hand luggage without problem.
- The regulation speaks of 100 ml, but given the current situation, higher capacities can be taken as an example 200 ml.
- Check with the authority of each country to know the current maximum allowed.
- Countries like the United States are allowing these products to be carried in containers of up to 350 ml.
- It is also allowed to bring soap for personal hand washing at the airport or airplanes in the allowed weights.
To close, remember that there are some exceptions to the rule for the following articles:
- Medicines with your prescription.
- Liquids or gels for medical needs.
- Bottles with breast milk or baby food up to 2 year old.
- Special diet foods for passengers.
I always recommend that when in doubt, consult directly with your airline for more information on your specific case.

Can i bring soap? the one that is in a bar?
In checked baggage, Yes.
If I carried bottles of 50 milliliters, why did they take them away from me? It happened last week. Possibly, what destiny has what they take from you?
How many bottles were? Everything they take from you is burned or processed in special facilities.
I do not remember, but, on the whole, did not exceed the limit of 1 liter. I forgot to mention in my previous comment that the bottles were made of disinfectant gel. How do those at the airport want you to have your hands clean if they take away your implements?? How do I choose the right product?? The label of many of them ensures that they are to take on the plane. I've heard that liquids should go in a zipper bag; maybe that influenced his decision to take my things from me.
For the amount they took it from you, if you wore 4 small bottles you had no problems. I have traveled in this time of pandemic with a bottle of 100mls and it is more than enough for the entire trip, In addition, at airports there are disinfection points where you can use it at no cost..
I forgot it: I don't know in Argentina, but in china, where i was, check computers and chargers. How risky these implements can be?
Inside the laptops or chargers you could hide drugs or explosives, are global security measures. Even iPads are reviewed.
Silly stuff. And the gunpowder? They can take it distributed in packages attached to the body. A fine, It seems more like a strategy of the airport stores to charge us for water to 400 euros per liter.
From what you say, there are security filters to detect behaviors like the one you indicate.
