The industry is experiencing the worst historical moment generated by the pandemic of the COVID-19, but is it a good time to start pilot career?
As a planet we are involved in a pandemic that does not seem to be coming to an end and the airline industry along with tourism have turned out to be the most affected.

Is it a good time to start the pilot career?
It all depends from the perspective that this question is seen.
For example the British Airline Pilots Association – BALPA for its acronym in English in a recent and controversial statement indicated the following:
"In this situation it would be irresponsible if we did anything more than warn people to consider delaying their flight training at this time."
The situation is critical and Europe is no exception:
"Currently there 10.000 unemployed commercial pilots across Europe, included 1.600 pilots in the UK. Many pilots are working part-time or on reduced pay to save jobs. And there are already around 200 trainees at flight training schools who were on their way to easyJet jobs who now have no clear route even to obtain a license, let alone a job"
Practically, warn students not to start their pilot career given the low job opportunities today and large debts that this profession leaves, but it also reveals a highly key point:
“We urge potential pilots to get experience in another profession first, which will postpone any training until the industry is in stronger shape, give them additional skills and experience and also give them another avenue to turn to. Here comes a tricky part, study a career prior to being a pilot, implies entering into additional expenses or even double investment, but it will be a lifesaver should a difficult situation arise again for the airline industry.

The outlook will not be negative forever
A key point, is that the situation we live in will not continue like this forever and it is expected that in the next 5 years the levels of the 2019, by which time many pilots will have entered retirement, others will have changed careers and a high demand for pilots will return (until the day comes, a second career is the option).
While passenger airlines have cut staff, Cargo airlines have been one of the few winners of the crisis and the recruitment of pilots for these companies is growing.
