DHL Express and Boeing announced that the global logistics company has placed an order for eight new cargo planes Boeing 777 additional.
These aircraft are added to the purchase of 14 planes announced last 2018. The investment marks a further step in DHL Express's expansion of its intercontinental air network to meet growing customer demand in international shipping markets..
The first deliveries are scheduled for 2022 also driven by the high demand generated by the transport of vaccines and medical supplies.
“Although the current health crisis has put a pause in several areas of life, world trade does not stop, dice John Pearson, CEO Global de DHL Express.
The largest and most capable twin-engine freighter in the world, the boeing 777 supports future business growth while providing exceptional reliability. What's more, the aircraft contributes to the committed sustainability goals thanks to its fuel-efficient technology that reduces CO2 emissions by 18 percent compared to the old B747-400.
the boeing 777 Freighter is the largest twin-engine freighter, world's longest range and most capable, with a range of 9.200 km (4.970 nautical miles) and can carry a maximum payload of 102.010 kg (224.900 pounds) and enables DHL Express to make fewer stops and reduce some associated landing costs on long-haul routes, resulting in the lowest travel cost of any large freighter.
Prior to this new order announced today, DHL Express had already taken delivery of the first ten new Boeing 777F aircraft as part of an original order from 14 aircraft made in 2018. These timely deliveries ensured that DHL was able to meet unprecedented customer demand during the peak shipping season..
Boeing's global air cargo forecast anticipates a significant increase in demand for new and converted freighters with fleet growth of more than 60% during the next 20 years. This is reflected in the growing demand for cross-border time-definite shipments that DHL Express is experiencing.. For this reason, both companies also agreed to options and purchase rights for four additional aircraft.
The company operates more than 260 dedicated aircraft with 17 airlines associated with more than 600 daily flights in 220 countries.
Vaccine transport
All this incorporation and purchase of DHL aircraft also comes hand in hand with the great global logistics that is developed with the transport of vaccines and even medical supplies on a massive scale..
In Latin America, the first countries to receive the first doses were: Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica and Panama; other countries where DHL delivered the vaccines include Austria, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Finland, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Oman, Romania, Singapore and Sweden.
For the distribution of the vaccine against COVID-19, manage the data, orchestrate and optimize the entire process, employing a combination of cutting-edge technology and people with extensive experience in different disciplines of supply chain management, Deutsche Post DHL Group has joined forces with its three divisions: Express, specialists in international shipments and courier delivery services; Supply Chain, the division that specializes in contract logistics and Global Forwarding, the division specializing in international trade.

ok Nicholas, Investors who lease to airlines prefer new equipment and today there are more possibilities to buy cargo planes from the factory with full operating cycles.. Before it was more common to see the Airbus A300, B727, DC-8, DC-10, MD-11, B757, B747s converted to freighters, for economy for airlines but with fewer operating cycles and reduced maintenance costs. We no longer see that trend, the new equipment for both passengers and cargo notably reduces operating costs and flight safety is better.
Completely, and I think the operating cost is the key.
Hi Nicolas,
It is understandable that due to the current situation of the pandemic, the market for cargo airlines has increased considerably.. DHL has made the right decision because the B777Fs consume up to 20% less fuel than a B747-400F but, if there are so many used B777-200, why these airlines do not choose to convert these passenger B772s to freighters? It would be cheaper than buying them brand new. Kind regards
A used aircraft has less time to fly and requires other maintenance, additional change to freighter costs, so in the long run it is probably convenient for them to have new assets.
