In this issue we are going to review which are all the certified airports and runways that are available in Ecuador.
The idea of this publication was born thanks to the curiosity of people on social networks. Days ago with the fall of volcanic ash of the Sangay Volcano that affected the José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport From Guayaquil.
For the last emission of ash, this only affected the operation of a particular airport, that of the Chimborazo Airport in the city of Riobamba and many people were surprised to learn of its existence.

Ecuador's private airports are missing
I can't find that list publicly., It's private just in case 😉
What is meant by VFR and IFR flights??
Do you consider that the Catamayo airport should be in concession so that it can improve its operations??
VFR is Visual Flight Rules and IFR is Instrument Flight Rules.. I don't know if Catamayo would improve its operations if it were concessioned, there is not much that can be done in terms of navigation with its geography.
And the Francisco de Orellana El Coca airport is not on that list

Thanks Nicholas for the information.. Specifically speaking of the province of Carchi and Tulcán, Is that airport not enabled? According to Ecuatoriana Airlines, it was also going to fly to that airport..
Tulcán is an operational and enabled airport.
Currently it is a little difficult to gain market share on the Tulcán-Quito route, due to the distance to the center of Quito, it does not represent a greater gain for the traveler (4 hours by car) vs (1h wait + 1h of section airport-Quito, not counting the 20 minutes of the flight itself). A route to Guayaquil, on the other hand, would represent a huge gain for the traveler, but of course the commercial/cultural ties between Tulcán-Quito and Tulcán-Guayaquil are not compared, although in recent years if there are more travelers to Guayaquil by land. Another alternative would be to resume being the stopover on some route as it was before Quito-Tulcán-Cali… It would be necessary to analyze the options very well so that they do not have to be closed as happened in the last attempts. Great contribution Alex., you're right, although I see the interborder to Cali returning through Esmeraldas, turned out to be a bigger market than Tulcán in every sense.
