Boeing moved a plane MD-90 to the site where it will be modified into X-66A to test the Transonic Truss-Braced Wing configuration (TTBW) as part of the demonstration project NASA sustainable flight. Press photo Boeing
While Boeing, NASA and community leaders gathered today at the company's facilities to recognize the milestone in the development of the X-66A experimental aircraft, Boeing released photos of the plane's trip from Victorville, California, hasta Palmdale.

The X-66A is NASA's first experimental aircraft focused on helping the US. UU. to achieve its goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions in aviation. Modification will begin soon and ground and flight testing is expected to begin in 2028.
«This marks an important step in the sustainable flight demonstration project, "Advances Boeing's commitment to sustainability and brings us closer to testing and validating the TTBW design.", said Todd Citron., Boeing CTO.
Featuring ultra-thin wings reinforced by struts with larger spans and higher aspect ratios, The TTBW design and other expected technological advances could result in reductions in fuel use and emissions by up to 30 %. Boeing and NASA have collaborated for more than a decade on the concept through the Subsonic Ultra Green Aircraft Research Program (SUGAR).
“We at NASA are excited to work with Boeing on the X-66A Sustainable Flight Demonstrator making critical contributions to accelerating aviation toward its goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.”, said Ed Wagoner, deputy associate program administrator at NASA Aeronautics. Research Missions Directorate.
«Aerospace Valley has a long and distinguished history as the birthplace of aerospace innovation, and this inauguration is a continuation of that fundamental work. Palmdale's talented workforce and infrastructure make it the perfect location for this important project.", said Congressman Mike Garcia (THAT- 27).
