airlines United and American Airlines announced the upcoming start of new routes in Latin America, plus the increase in frequencies in other of its destinations in the region.

They have been quite busy days in terms of announcements by North American airlines, and one of the most important has not been left behind. First it announced a major expansion in Europe and other regions with 50 new routes, now new destinations are added in our region, plus also the announcement of a new route to Japan.

United and American grow again in Latin America

Let's start reviewing the announcements made by both airlines, where Tulum and the new international airport that will soon open its doors, is the main protagonist.

United Airlines

United announced today that it will offer non-stop flights between USA and Tulum International Airport (ICT), which will soon open, in Mexico, with 22 weekly flights from Newark/New York, Houston and Chicago from 31 march 2024*. The 23 of May, United will add daily seasonal service from The Angels, which will result in up to five daily flights from the operations centers of United to Tulum this coming summer*. Flights will be available for sale from 18 of November.

United is also expanding its network in the Latin America and Caribbean region in a 25% this winter and will remain the largest U.S. airline serving Central America. Some additional enhancements to United's winter schedule for the Caribbean and Latin America include:

Caribe

  • New routes between Denver and San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Denver and Montego Bay, Jamaica
  • Three daily flights between Newark/New York and Santiago, Dominican Republic and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
  • Two daily flights between Newark/New York and Oranjestad, Aruba; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and Nassau, Bahamas
  • Two daily flights between Washington/Dulles and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
  • Daily flights between Chicago/O'Hare and Nassau, Bahamas
  • Daily flights between Newark/New York and Georgetown, Cayman Islands and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
  • Three weekly flights between Newark/New York and Bonaire

Central America

  • Three daily flights between Houston and San José, Costa Rica and San Salvador, The Savior
  • Two daily flights between Houston and Belize City, Belice
  • Daily flights between Denver and Liberia, Costa Rica
  • Daily flights between Los Angeles and Guatemala City, Guatemala and San Salvador, The Savior
  • Daily flights between Newark/New York and Liberia, Costa Rica

Mexico

  • Four daily flights between Chicago and Cancun, Mexico
  • Three daily flights between Houston and León/Guanajuato, Mexico
  • Two daily flights between Denver and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
  • Two daily flights between San Francisco and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and San José del Cabo, Mexico
  • Daily flights between Cleveland and Cancun, Mexico, during the peak Christmas and New Year holiday period; 6 weekly flights in march

South America

  • Ten weekly flights between Houston and Buenos Aires, Argentina

American Airlines

The next summer, American will expand its service to Mexico, the Caribe and Latin America. More than 90 destinations to choose, American offers the most nonstop options for customers looking to find new adventures next summer. From 5 June 2024, American will increase service on several routes in the region.

American Airlines announced 10 November 2023 that will launch new international routes in 2024. Routes include:

  • One daily non-stop flight between New York (JFK) and Tokyo (HND).
  • Four daily nonstop flights between Charlotte (CLT), Miami (MY) y Tulum (ICT), Mexico.
  • Additional flights to several cities in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America.
  • The flight between New York and Tokyo will be the only nonstop flight between the United States and Japan operated by a US airline.
  • The flight between Charlotte, Miami and Tulum will be the most frequent non-stop service in this Mexican city.

The new routes are added to the global network of American Airlines, which currently includes more than 350 destinations around the world.
