In this installment we review how the works are progressing in the new terminal of the Jorge Chávez International Airport that are on a 90%.

Thousands of workers have been tirelessly building this modern aviation center, and progress is seen little by little, preparing for the long-awaited grand opening of next 18 from December. With more than 90% construction completed, The airport will be ready to open its doors in less than five months.

Scheduled to begin operations in December, The new terminal is designed to accommodate 30 million passengers annually. It will have state-of-the-art technology comparable to the main airports in the world.. Among the advanced systems and equipment already installed are:

  • Sophisticated baggage handling systems: including 27 inspection lines equipped with CT scanners for greater passenger safety and comfort.
  • Advanced aircraft management systems: A new digital platform will guide aircraft movements on the apron safely and efficiently.
  • Modern cargo handling facilities: High-capacity elevators will make it easier to handle heavy luggage.
    Passenger services: Numerous check-in counters, Self-service kiosks and spacious boarding gates will ensure a hassle-free travel experience.

Karla Urdiales, LAP Communications Leader, expressed his enthusiasm, stating: «This is a monumental year for Peru. We are about to deliver a new airport that will be incomparable in South America. With its advanced systems and the ability to manage 30 million passengers annually since its first year of operation, "The new Jorge Chávez will become a source of national pride.".

Key Points of the New Airport

This airport promises to be the most modern in the region, not only because it is totally new, but for all the unique technology that will be installed:

  • Unparalleled security: The airport will be the first in the region to use computed tomography for baggage screening, guaranteeing the highest levels of security.
  • Efficient operations: Advanced technology will streamline billing processes, security and boarding.
  • World class services: Passengers can expect a wide variety of shopping options, restaurants and lounges.
  • Sustainable design: The airport is being built with a focus on environmental sustainability.

New temporary land accesses

To ensure easy access to the new airport, authorities are investing in infrastructure improvements. A new access road, Morales Duarez Avenue, It will be the main route to the terminal. What's more, A comprehensive public transportation plan is being developed to connect the airport with various parts of Lima and Callao.

  • The infrastructure includes more than a kilometer of additional roads.
  • The MTC will put the Santa Rosa Bridge into operation in 2027, establishing the final access route to the airport.
  • More than US$ has been allocated 7 additional millions for construction, operation and maintenance of roads, which implies an addendum to the contract.

LAP and the Urban Transportation Authority for Lima and Callao (MORE) They are working on a plan to connect the new airport with the city using public transport buses. They project between 5 and 6 new routes that will include connections with corridors, the Metropolitan and the Lines 1 and 2 of the Lima and Callao Metro.

These routes will cover the areas of Callao, South Lima and North Lima.
