The expansion of Quito airport represents an investment of US$ 74.2 million financed with the own resources of Corporación Quiport and its shareholders. At the moment, working in masonry, installation of fire extinguishing systems, drinking water pipe, laying power networks and communications cables, air conditioning and drains. One of the biggest tasks being developed is the installation of the fixed structure of the new passenger boarding bridge (manga).

Upon entering the work, you can see more than 350 workers working tirelessly on the different work fronts of this monumental project that will add some 17 one thousand m2 at the four levels of the passenger terminal, and 35 one thousand m2 on the aircraft parking platform.

Diego Alvarez, Design and Construction Manager of Corporación Quiport, explains that the work represents a growth of 25% in the useful area of ​​the terminal in the passenger processing areas (public areas, airline check-in counters, baggage claim area), as well as in the international pre-boarding area. The expansion also contemplates growth in the baggage processing area, International VIP Room, Tax free store, among other.

Starting in January, the equipment for the baggage handling system will arrive in the country, that is being manufactured abroad.

Ramon Miro, president and CEO of Quiport, It highlights the importance of the work for future airport plans. “This expansion is contemplated in the Airport Master Plan, which is the document that allows us to plan the growth of the airport in an orderly manner.. With the expansion, the terminal increases its passenger processing capacity, which is currently in 5 million a year, a 7 million passengers per year, which represents more opportunities for tourism and business travel, generating more employment”, said.

The work will be completed in the last quarter of 2025.
