The expansion works of the Quito International Airport they reached a 89% progress and its opening date is approaching until the end of this year.
The expansion of Quito Airport (AIQ) progresses at a good pace, reaching a 89% of progress. The jobs, that seek to modernize facilities and increase operational capacity, reflect the commitment to offer greater comfort and efficiency to passengers and airlines after work has begun on 2019.

The expansion of the Quito Airport advances
With 372 workers on site and more than 64,167 work hours, the progress up to 10 September 2025 are notable in several key areas:
- Luggage system test: The ORAT test was carried out (Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer) of the new baggage handling system in international arrivals and departures areas. The objective was to verify its performance in real conditions to guarantee a safe and efficient service..
- Public Departure Hall: The main works have been completed, including glass installation, marble, furniture, wiring and security equipment. Self-registration kiosks have also been placed. Currently, Painting details and the placement of security cameras are being finalized.
- International Arrivals: The installations are completed with all electrical systems, furniture, painting and false ceiling in operation.
- New pre-boarding lounge: Lighting is being installed, ducts, sprinkler pipes and valves. Wood-style frames, panels and bathroom fixtures are already in place.
- baggage carousel area: The electrical work has been completed, data and fiber optic testing, as well as the installation of pipes and electronic devices. Only the placement of signage is pending.
- boarding bridge: In the corridor towards the new fixed bridge 16, Progress is being made with the installation of stainless steel protections on the columns and the placement of partitions and stucco.
Full opening of all areas is expected, in the second expansion process that the airport is going through, be ready until December of this year.
