Today I am going to tell you about something super useful if you live or visit Quito.: Bus options to get to Mariscal Sucre Airport (UIO), which is in Tababela. Photo Quiport
We're not going to lie, the options of public transport to the airport is not many nor very comfortable as I have commented on the blog, but be careful, there is a small improvement. An important step has recently been taken to finally connect the airport in some way with the Quito Metro and the rest of the city's mass transportation, and that's great news!
The key move was to extend the bus route that goes from the Airport to Río Coca, taking it now to the El Labrador Station. think about this: now you can get off the bus, make an easy transfer to the Metro, to the Troll or to the Echovia, and get almost wherever you want in the city. This not only helps those who live in Tumbaco or Cumbayá, but to any tourists or workers who need to move economically and without the stress of a taxi or driving.. In addition to this novelty, We still have the best-known bus routes that leave from the Quitumbe and Carcelén terminals..
Buses to Quito Airport
If you are going or coming from the main air terminal in Ecuador and do not want to spend on expensive taxis or drive, public transportation is available, It is not the best or most comfortable alternative, but it is undoubtedly much more economical than any other method.
The great novelty and with the objective of connecting the metro and also providing more transportation options, the Airport – El Labrador Station Route has been created or improved, which previously only reached the Coca River.. The operation is like this:
- The Airport – Río Coca route was strategically expanded to connect directly with the El Labrador Multimodal Station, a key point in the north of Quito.
- Integration: This expansion offers a direct connection with mass mobility subsystems such as the Quito Metro (Line 1), the Trolleybus and the Ecovía, facilitating transfers and arrival to various areas of the city.
- Route: The route departs from El Labrador Station towards Río Coca and the Airport (and vice versa), making intermediate stops that benefit the inhabitants of sectors such as Tababela, Cumbayá, Tumbaco, Page, as well as tourists and merchants.
- Schedules and Frequency:
- Monday to Friday: 4:45 a 22:00
- Saturdays: 5:00 a 23:00
- Sundays and Holidays: 6:00 a 20:00
- Time interval: Between 20 and 25 minutes.
- Operators: Queen of Quinche, Puembo and Yaruquí.
Bus routes to the airport
Additional to the expanded and improved route from El Labrador via the Coca River, The two options also continue to operate from Quitumbe and Carcelén under the following scheme (rotate screen if you are watching on cell phone):
| Route | Days of Operation | Time | Approximate Frequency | Operators |
| Terminal Quitumbe (On) | Monday to Sunday and holidays | 5:00 a 22:00 | 10 a 15 minutes | Queen of Quinche, Yaruquí, More, Puembo, Tumbaco. |
| Carcelen Terminal (North) | Monday to Saturday | 5:30 a 21:20 | 12 a 15 minutes | Calderón, Guadalajara, Pichincha Fleet, A candlestick, Llano Grande, San Juan, Semgyllfor. |
| Sunday and holidays | 6:00 a 20:20 |
It's an advance, but there is still a long way to go to easily and quickly connect the Airport with the Quito Metro.
