This is a new requirement, which is not related to international health insurance for tourists visiting Ecuador, which was repealed and will not enter into force.
The Governing Council of the Special Regime of Galapagos – CREG reported during August 2018 on the updated requirements for foreign tourists visiting the Galapagos as of November of this year.
Through Ordinance No.. 001-CGREG-XI-V-2018, the plenary session of the Governing Council, issued a new Migration and Residence Regulation in the Special Regime of the Province of Galapagos.
This specifies the requirements that all tourists visiting the Archipelago will have to comply with.. Article 48 indica:
- Have acquired the traffic control card;
- Return ticket by any route
- private health insurance;
- Reservation in one or more accommodations or legally authorized tourist accommodation establishments, to spend the night; O,
- Letter of invitation signed by a permanent or temporary resident in the province of Galapagos, which must be extended in the format established for this purpose by the Technical Secretariat of the Governing Council.
Of all these requirements, where citizenship card or passport is added for all travelers, the point is waived 3 ONLY, for Ecuadorian tourists.

From the 1 of November, all foreign tourists entering through Baltra airports, San Cristobal the isabella, they must accredit all the previously numbered requirements.
This new obligation for foreigners, It can be purchased by tourists from insurance companies that have the respective Technical Secretariat. The names of these companies have not yet been published on the entity's web portal.

These requirements had already been recently updated in July 2017, where the need to have a invitation letter from a Galapagos resident in the case of no hotel or cruise accommodation.
