The most congested air route in the world 2017 – 2018 es… between Seoul Gimpo Airports to Jeju Island on the Korean Peninsula.

The busiest passenger air routes on earth have been revealed in a new study published by Routes, organizer of the world's largest aviation network development conferences and events.

More than 13.4 millions of people traveling in short-distance domestic service, the journey of 450 km from Seoul Gimpo Airport to Jeju Island off the coast of the Korean Peninsula has once again claimed the title as the most sought-after air route in the world.

The route has an average of 180 scheduled flights per day, that is to say, each 8 minutes, and primarily transports leisure travelers from South Korea's dense capital city to the island, famous for its white sand resorts and volcanic landscape.

A total of 13,460,305 passengers flew between Seoul and Jeju in 2017, an increase of 9,4% in the 12 previous months, when the route was also ranked as the busiest in the world. It took the staggering number of 4,369,364 people more than the second busiest, Melbourne – Sydney Kingsford Smith.

Although the United States remains the world's largest aviation market, Routes analysis found that air services in the Asia-Pacific region dominate the 100 busiest routes by number of passengers, which represents more than 70% of the total.

Hong Kong – Taiwan Taoyuan is the busiest international route and ranks as the eighth most popular overall, with 6,719,029 passengers flying 802 km en 2017. Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific operations center, appears on six of the ten most important international routes.

The study also found that the Thai domestic route from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi – Chiang Mai is the fastest growing route in the Top 100. The number of two-way passengers grew by 36% year after year almost 2,4 millions.

Very important for Latin America to highlight the Cancun route – Mexico City as the 19 most congested in the world, surpassing by more than 600 thousand passengers to what was previously the most congested in the region, the Sao Paulo Congonhas route (CGH) – Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont (SDU).

The world's busiest routes were calculated using the Timetable Analyzer. OAG to find the 500 best routes by total seat capacity in 2017. The routes were then classified by passenger numbers using data provided by Saber Market Intelligence.
