The renovated Jorge Newbery Airport reopened its operations with renewed Landing track, international terminal and with improvements in its technological systems.

In addition to the improvements to its runway, new air navigation and meteorological observation equipment has been incorporated that contributes to raising the category of the airport, for greater flight efficiency and reliability. Your new Landing Instrument System (ILS) and new Automatic Meteorological Observation System (WOW) will allow you to operate even with visibility values lower than the current minimums.

Until before the reforms carried out in Aeroparque, both systems were standard accuracy, which allowed approaches to be carried out using radioelectric instruments in what is called Category I. The new equipment is of superior precision and will allow aircraft to fly Category III approaches., with visibility values similar to the current ones of the Ministro Pistarini International Airport in Ezeiza. Although some values improve since the opening, as is the case with takeoff minima, those of landing must be accompanied by airport infrastructure planned for a second stage.

The one that is by transported passengers the most important in Argentina with more than 12 million passengers to 2019, inaugurated several reforms carried out with the aim of improving its operability and capacity on the runway.

The system ILS consists of a set of navigation signal transmitters, with guidance in the horizontal plane in reference to the track axis, y vertical, in an optimal descent path. Signals transformed into guidance indications by instruments on board aircraft, they follow a virtual path that takes them to the desired touch point on the track.

Regarding the new AWOS system of Aeroparque, This is part of a total of 18 AWOS systems acquired by EANA to be installed in the country's airports. A CAT III AWOS automatically measures and transmits high-precision instant data of current weather conditions at both runway heads and midpoints: visibility, runway visual range, cloud base height, precipitation, wind speed and direction, temperature, atmospheric pressure and other parameters. In consecuense, the airport's minimum operating meteorological values may be reduced, and with it the delays or diversions of flights.

All these improvements required an investment of more than $54 million dollars 3000 direct and indirect jobs, 800 m2 new in the international area, 2000 new LED lights, 160 kilometers of pipes underground, 17.200 m3 of pavement demolished, 109 m3 of concrete on the runway and taxiways.

  1. Hi Nico. The A330 still cannot operate in Aeroparque, there is no place on the platform but if they could already use the track. In a future expansion of the platform they could operate but only within the country. Regional flights from/to AEP have aircraft limitations of less than 200 seating.

Indeed, the airport was renovated quite well. They said that with the extension of the runway the Airbus A330-200 of Aerolineas Argentinas could operate, However, the runway does not yet have the capacity to receive these aircraft due to their weight, but in the future it will be possible according to what I read in an article..

    1. from what i read, can now operate an A330, they even say until 380, but they must do the procedures, painting of signs and other arrangements so that the plane can "turn" at the end of the runway.
