Today we will tell you how is the adventure at the Terra Luna Lodge located in Tena, located less than 4 hours of Quito.

Leaving to the east of Quito, via Papallacta, on roads that are in fairly good condition, but it never hurts to remember that you must drive with caution since they are curved roads, heavy traffic and there is a high chance of rain and mist, is the beautiful city of Tena.

Terra Luna Lodge

In an average time of 3 hours and 45 minutes from Quito, We arrived in a city that we personally had not been to for more than 20 years, ha cambiado mucho y el cambio ha sido positivo. Si te gustan ciudades como Baños de Agua Santa, the Tena has the same vibe in a slightly bigger city.

ordered, clean and with great developments of road and tourist infrastructure, Tena is a city of entry to the Ecuadorian Amazon, very close to Quito, so its tourist potential is enormous and with much still to be developed.

Even, a large linear park was built where the Tena Airport was once, which was replaced by the rarely used Airport in Jumandy.

¿Cómo llegar al Tena?

From Quito You have to take the Ruta Viva or Collas to head towards the east of the city, as if we were going to Baeza passing through Pifo, Papallacta, Sarayacu and Archidona until reaching Tena.

favorably, on this occasion Google Maps works perfectly and the proposed route is correct, so you will not have news on the route if you use this app to navigate.

Once in the center of Tena, very close is a small, pero hermoso hotel en medio de un ambiente amazónico rodeado de vegetación y animales de la zona. Comida rica y todas las facilidades para pasar unos días con internet pero conectado con la naturaleza.

Google Maps will take you directly along the best route to Terra Luna, passing even a thin one lane bridge, that gives an additional touch of adventure to this trip.

Once the check-in is done, which starts at 14 hours, you can see its comfortable facilities that offer WiFi, television, restaurant, pool and spa, but above all a very relaxing environment to 5 minutes from the noise of the city, excellent for those who want to disconnect.

Here are some examples of the food available, that more than good flavor, is abundant, perfect to recover energy.

Activities in Tena

Beyond what can be done in the hotel, the adventure is outside and there are endless activities, most of them have to do with the water from the nearby rivers of the city of Tena.

Walks through local forests, visit to lagoons, rivers, caves, to indigenous communities but it is an ideal place for beginners and expert levels of extreme sports such as rappelling., kayak, rafting and others.

Ahí estamos nosotros «luchando» contra el río.

We decided to kayak in a rubber boat, initially to do it in a category II river since it was the first time we did it, but finally we went to the Jatunyacu river which is category III, so the adventure was more extreme, but incredible and worth repeating.

After a few kilometers downstream and thanks to the tide we were able to enter a crack where it is very easy to reach a small waterfall without any influence or human contact..

I share a video of this experience recorded by Andrés, our expert guide assigned for this adventure:

At the end of the river downstream you reach this Malecón, very nice and where there are facilities such as bathroom and dressing rooms to change clothes.

After the kayak we went east until we reached Puerto Misahuallí as we were already quite close to the point of arrival in the kayak, so it is a recommended visit if you want to eat or drink something to regain strength after an activity that does require a lot of use of energy.

recommendations

  • Biosafety measures: It never hurts to remember the use of a mask at all times, even if the heat is intense and maintain social distancing.
  • Outfit: light clothes, break wind, Shorts, sports shirts, flip flops and shoes (preferably Crocs type water)
  • Kayaking is not for all ages, so if you go with your family you can look for less extreme activities or in calmer rivers, so everyone enjoy.
  • Apart from kayaking there are other water activities that can be done in groups of up to 8 people so it's a good walk to go among a group of friends.
  • Take a lot of repellent and especially sunscreen so that you apply it permanently.
  • In a backpack bring clothes to change, because it is 99% they will surely fall more than once from the kayak.
  • Follow your guide's recommendations closely, given that for safety, care must be taken as they are extreme activities.
  • Avoid carrying valuables while kayaking, it is certain that they will lose them.
  • GoPro-type video camera well attached is recommended.
