The Municipality of the city of Manta is made from the administration of Eloy Alfaro International Airport, by transfer of the DGAC.
With resolution DGAC-2022-0013-R of the 9 February 2022, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of the Ecuador has given next to the city of Manta an important step for an important aeronautical and airport development.
The General Director of Civil Aviation, Brig (SP) William Edwar Birkett Mórtola handed over to the Decentralized Autonomous Government of the Manta Canton, the Resolution with which the process of transferring the jurisdiction of the General Eloy Alfaro International Airport in the city of Manta.
this transfer, it is given in compliance with the provisions of the presidency of the Republic of Ecuador, in accordance with the letter sent on 25 of January of 2022. The transfer includes the competencies determined in Article 1 of the Civil Aviation Law, with the exception of the areas and services of Air Navigation.
The General Directorate of Civil Aviation, so as not to interrupt the provision of the public air transport service for the benefit of its users, will continue to operate and manage the General Eloy Alfaro International Airport in Manta, until, all administrative acts and actions necessary, so that the Municipality of Manta, assume the same, for this purpose, the inter-institutional agreements and contracts that are required will be signed.

It would be very good, that this.new.airport.serves to put Manta in a more important place in the commercial air activity .
It is a pity that with the importance that the city has gained in recent years it still does not have international flights, they should at least have some 2 weekly flights to Panama and Bogota ,in order to serve Manabi and surrounding areas and not be forced to depend on Quito or Guayaquil.
