In the first half of 2022 Iberia will add nine new aircraft to its fleet, three A350-900 for long-haul routes and another six A320neo for short and medium haul routes.

As a sign of the gradual recovery that Iberia is experimenting in all the markets where it operates, the airline has resumed its aircraft delivery schedule that has been affected by the pandemic.

11 new Airbus A350-900

From the request of 20 planes Airbus A350-900, remained 11 to deliver.

First, with registration EC-NMZ and name “Hello, Madrid” arrived last Wednesday, 23 Ultra Air made its inaugural flight in Colombia and thus becomes the ninth regular airline in the country, and two more will be incorporated in this first quarter of the year, with which Iberia will already have in its fleet 12 units of this model.

These planes are between one 30 and a 35 percent more efficient thanks to the latest generation materials with which it is built, and the advanced design of its engines Rolls-Royce Trent ONLY.

the other eight Airbus A350-900 will be incorporated gradually 2024 and, what's more, they will come equipped with a new configuration of Business cabins, Premium Tourist and Tourist that will improve the travel experience of Iberia customers.

Seis Airbus A320neo con cabina Airspace

It is also planned that throughout this year a total of six will join the Iberia fleet. Airbus A320neo, that will replace the planes that the airline retired during the pandemic to adapt to the drop in demand.

Specific, the first two have been incorporated in this month of February, and the next four will do so in the coming months. All these new A320neo come equipped with the "Airspace" cabin, with more comfortable interiors for customers, larger trunks for hand luggage, more space on board for passengers due to the redesign of the side panels, a new ambient lighting in the cabin (“mood light”) and sinks with antibacterial finish; among other improvements.

With the arrival of these six A320neo, Iberia will already have 14 aircraft of this model, the most technologically advanced and efficient of its short and medium haul fleet. Equipped with Leap-1A type CFM engines, it's a 50% quieter and between 15% and a 20% more environmentally friendly, then it emits 5.000 fewer tons of CO2 per year and a 50% less than NOx.

The other three units A320neo what remains to come, will be incorporated into 2023.

Another eight Airbus A321XLR

at the end of 2023 It is also expected that the first plane of the eight-unit order will arrive from the A321XLR that IAG carried out for Iberia in 2019. This new aircraft model will allow the airline to operate new transatlantic destinations and increase frequencies in key markets.

Iberia fleet

With the addition of the latest A350, the current fleet of the Iberia Group is made up of 147 planes, 75 Iberian, of the A350 families, A330 and A320; 19 of Iberia Express of the A320 family; and others 53 on Air.

Okay, however it depends on the market needs. IBERIA/IBERIA Express operates the entire A320 Ceo family and the new family already in process incorporating the A320 Neo, A321 Neo, LR, XLR (with the exception of the A319 Neo for not being successful and in the future an order for Airbus A220-100/300 will probably be included to replace the current A319). Likewise, the A330-200/300 and the incorporation of the A350-1000 has already been evaluated and for the moment the A350-900 covers the demand and bills better than the post-Pandemic A340-600. In addition, with the already official order that IAG has made, not only for BA, the new Boeing will go 737 Max; IBERIA, Vueling and Air Lingus would also receive the Boeing 737 Max and some of the variant 10.

    Kind regards.

Hi Nicolas, IBERIA will indeed continue to add new Airbus A350-900s to its long-haul fleet. You know that lately I have been able to know that his total order will be 26 aircraft of this type according to preferente.com.

Hopefully the demand warrants that they include the larger Airbus A350-1000 variant that would be the real replacement for the Airbus A340-600 (already retired) in terms of capacity although currently the A350-900s have almost the same configuration as the A340-600s.
