LATAM Group modernizes its fleet after purchasing agreement for more family aircraft Airbus A320neo.
The LATAM group submitted for approval before the Court in USA an agreement with Airbus for the purchase of 28 new planes that add to the 42 narrow body already agreed, as part of its fleet modernization and efficiency plan for the coming years.
This order, which totals 70 aircraft, maintains the LATAM group fleet as the largest of Latin America, with greater reach and capacity. The integration of family aircraft A320neo means more efficient engines, aerodynamic improvements and latest technologies that provide 20% more efficient fuel consumption, but still, lower CO2 emissions, along with a reduction in 50% of the nitrogen oxide emissions and of the 50% of the acoustic footprint.
By signing this agreement, the group aspires to strengthen its operations in all its subsidiaries at a regional level with a modern fleet and maximum efficiency in environmental matters, one of the pillars of his sustainability strategy.
“The purchase of these highly efficient aircraft is a sign of the commitment we have made to the transformation towards a carbon neutral LATAM in 2050. At the same time, these 70 planes reinforce the scale of connectivity in the region. We will continue working responsibly to get out of the Chapter 11 with a fleet that accompanies the new challenges of the group”, expressed Roberto Alvo, CEO of LATAM Airlines Group
Arturo Barreira, President of Airbus for Latin America and the Caribe, added:
«La decisión del grupo LATAM de continuar incorporando aviones A320neo demuestra su gran compromiso con la sostenibilidad. The A320neo has state-of-the-art engines, sharklets, and an innovative cabin, being the most comfortable single-aisle aircraft, de bajo consumo de combustible y respetuosa con el medio ambiente del mundo».

Some of these aircraft may go to LATAM Ecuador? Or it is expected that some aircraft will replace the old A319 or be added to the LATAM Ecuador fleet?
You could hope so, but it all depends on the general plans of the LATAM group.
