The 200 years of the Battle of Pichincha brought with it several artistic events, cultural and social to celebrate this date, but one of the events that we aviation lovers longed for the most was the Bicentennial Fair 2022.

Bicentennial Fair 2022

This Fair organized by the three branches of the Armed Forces, brought together adults and children, young and old of all ages to revive a bit of our legacy, our history and what it is, was and will be our Armed Forces. It was estimated that a total of 200.000 people. The activities were varied and in this note we will review them.

The Bicentennial Fair 2022 was inaugurated 13 May at the Bicentennial Convention Center of the former Mariscal Sucre Airport, and extended that weekend until Sunday 15. From the hand of authorities of the Armed Forces, Municipality of the capital and other sponsors made this fair a reality.

Among the exhibitions are, a section in the entrance hall with a museological exhibition with various historical artifacts from rifles, manuscripts, cannons, uniforms and other important objects from past centuries.

Further on was the main hall.. There were stands from all branches of the Ecuadorian Armed Forces, of their institutions, schools, schools, research centers and also sponsors of said fair. Schools like the ESPE, ESMA and institutions such as DIAF, the Ecuadorian Antarctic Institute, the National Police and others had their stands.

Also there, the aerial theme began. Three aircraft of the current and old Ecuadorian military aviation were exhibited, including a Dassault Mirage F1JA next to a mannequin of a pilot. A little further back was a UAV or unmanned aircraft developed by the CIDFAE (Research and Development Center of the Ecuadorian Air Force) known as the UAV-2 Gavilán which is used for various mapping missions, aerial photography and reconnaissance. In addition we could also see the cherry on the cake, one of six helicopters Airbus Helicopters H145 recently acquired by FAE, which children and adults could approach to take photos inside.

In the outdoor exhibition we could see several vehicles and planes of the armed forces, tanks, trucks, anti-aircraft material and even a coast guard boat, and all of them could be accessed to see them up close. But we came to talk about what flies, outside stood a bell 430 belonging to the Ecuadorian Navy, which is based in Galapagos and used for search missions, patient rescue and transfer.

Later, and at the foot of the old Mariscal Sucre Airport terminal, was the exhibition of emblematic aircraft of the FAE. Aircraft such as the North American T-6 Texan were found on order, Lockheed T-33, BAC Strikemaster, Cessna A-37B Dragonfly, Beech T-34 Turbo Mentor, Sepecat Jaguar and the legendary IAI Kfir. Various ground military equipment was brought from the Ecuadorian Army, anti-aircraft and troop carriers. But also, A French Aerospatiale SA342L Gazelle helicopter participated, which serves as an instruction aircraft for the Army Aviation Technical School.

All these aircraft could be seen up close by the participants who enjoyed a pleasant atmosphere with various shows., song, food and above all history that we celebrate in 200 years of being free Ecuadorians.

We share an additional photo gallery with everything that could be seen:
