It was officially revealed Boeing 777 ecoDemonstrator with which they will be tested 30 future technologies for a more sustainable aviation. photo boeing

Boeing today unveiled its ecoDemonstrator 2022 with a paint honoring a decade of testing to reduce fuel use, emissions and noise. The latest ecoDemonstrator, a 777-200ER owned by Boeing, will try some 30 new technologies aimed at improving the sustainability and safety of the aerospace industry, including a water conservation system and technologies to improve operational efficiency.

The ecoDemonstrator of Boeing 2022 will try 30 technologies to improve safety and sustainability. For six months of ground and flight tests starting this summer, the echo demonstrator 2022 will evaluate:

  • In collaboration with NASA, SMART vortex generators (small vertical blades on the wing) improve aerodynamic efficiency during takeoff and landing.
  • A system to conserve water on board and reduce weight, as well as the use of fuel
  • Additively manufactured aircraft and engine parts to help reduce fuel use and manufacturing waste
  • An environmentally friendly refrigerant and a new fire suppression agent to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • An enhanced vision alerting system for pilots to improve operational efficiency
  • Continuous comprehensive study of the impact of aviation fuel towards emission reduction.
  • For all flight tests, the 777-200ER will fly on the highest approved blend of sustainable aviation fuel (PURE) available

Since its initial flights in 2012, ecoDemonstrator program Boeing has accelerated innovation by taking new technologies out of the lab and testing them in an operational environment. Including this year's platform, the program has tested about 230 technologies to help decarbonize aviation, improve operational efficiency, improve passenger safety and experience. Approximately one-third of the technologies tested have progressed to the products and services of Boeing.

«El programa Boeing ecoDemonstrator reúne los dos ingredientes más importantes para un futuro más sostenible: innovative technologies and customer partnerships, providers, agencias gubernamentales y académicos», Chris Raymond said, chief sustainability officer at boeing.
