ACI-LAC published a new report where we can know the most important airports from Latin America by passengers, cargo and aircraft movements 2022.
Airports Council International Latin America and the Caribbean presents the ranking of the 10 airports in Latin America and the Caribbean with the most passenger traffic, air cargo and aircraft movements in 2022, which surprisingly is almost entirely led by Mexico City.
Most important airport in Latin America 2022
At the top of the ranking are the Mexico City International Airport "Lic Benito Juárez" (Mexico City) followed by El Dorado International Airport (Bogota). The Mexican terminal obtained first place in total passengers and air movements, followed by the Colombian terminal. Regarding cargo traffic, the situation is reversed, with El Dorado Airport in 1st place and Mexico City Airport in 2nd place.
By country, Brazilian airports stand out, with four terminals between 10 largest in the region in passengers and cargo. Congonhas International Airport presented the largest percentage increase in the region in the volume of passengers transported (+87,33%) and in the number of air movements (+55,4%) on 2022, in comparison with 2021.
Airports with the most passengers
The ICA report shows that there was an increase in 47,8% in passenger traffic Latin America and the Caribbean on 2022 compared to the levels of 2021. Last year, 246.598.482 passengers were transported in the first 10 airports in the region. Although domestic traffic decreased by 27% interannual, growth in the region was driven by international traffic, which recorded a year-on-year increase in 78%.

Airports with more load
Regarding air cargo traffic, there was a total increase in the region of 1,3% on 2022 compared to the levels of 2021. Domestic air cargo traffic increased by 0,7%, while international air cargo traffic decreased by 3% in comparison with 2021.
It is noted that only 5 airports on the list achieved a degree of growth during the 2022:

Airport with the most flights
The report also highlights an increase in 28% in aircraft movements in 2022 in comparison with 2021. Worldwide, The total rebound observed was 29%, showing Sao Paulo Guarulhos the most important recovery within the list.
