Wingo ended the 2023 with historic growth in passengers 26%, being the year with the greatest increase since its beginning of operations in 2016.

During the past year, were close to 3 millions of travelers who flew in Wingo as the only low-cost model airline available in Colombia today, demonstrating in turn the solidity and good performance of said model in the region.

Taking advantage of the new opportunities that have opened up in Colombia during the 2023 given the closure of two low-cost airlines, Wingo It took advantage of these spaces to consolidate its position and reaffirm its operations in the enormous Colombian domestic and international market., where in this second segment it had its greatest participation.

Wingo's historical growth during 2023

The airline thus achieves an increase in passengers that is in line with its growth in capacity., taking into account the number of additional seats implemented on its route network during 2023. The capacity of Wingo closed the year in 3.3 million seats available in regular operation, growing like this 23% vs 2022.

This increase is not only supported by the eight new routes implemented in 2023, being the year of greatest expansion for the airline in terms of new network; also in the incorporation of more and more frequencies on routes in the Colombian domestic market, where already Wingo ranks as the third most important player with close to 6% domestic market share, according to data from the Aerocivil.

“We closed a 2023, which for Wingo in particular was very positive, with relevant growth both in chairs, that reflects our offer, as in passengers, which reflects the market acceptance of our product. Today we are a player that is constantly growing and that already reaches 37 routes in 23 Latin American destinations. Thanks to those three million travelers who trusted us and who allow us to be today the only low-cost airline available in Colombia”, expressed Eduardo Lombana, Wingo CEO.

More routes in 2024

The airline prepares engines to start the 2024 with a new expansion effort, then the next 16 January will have the inauguration of its first new route of the year. Is about Medellin – Caracas, which will begin operations from the International Airport José María Córdova with three frequencies per week; Tuesdays, Wednesday and Saturday.

The route that will connect the capital of Antioquia with Maiquetia, air terminal serving Caracas, will have a total of 4.500 chairs per month between both routes. This operation represents the second route of Wingo in Venezuelan territory, after Bogotá-Caracas, being the Colombian airline with the most robust operation to the neighboring country.
