United Airlines announced the new destinations and routes of what will be its largest expansion of international flights in its history.
As of May 2025, United to launch five new nonstop flights from its Newark/New York hub to destinations no other U.S. airline serves, including Nuuk, Greenland; Palermo, Italy; Bilbao, Spain; Madeira, Portugal and Faro, Portugal. The airline will also add three new nonstop routes from Washington D.C./Dulles, including your first flight to Dakar, Senegal, which will operate throughout the year, and new seasonal non-stop flights to Nice, France, and Venice, Italy.
United's further international expansion
United as part of its expansion is also adding new direct flights from Tokyo-Narita to Ulan Bator, Mongolia, y Kaohsiung, destinations no other US airline serves, and a new non-stop flight to Koror, Palau. These new flights will connect seamlessly in Tokyo with United's transpacific services to five hubs in the continental United States..
Summer expansion unlocks a wide range of experiences, from reindeer sleigh rides, camel racing and midnight sun viewing to bucket list attractions like the Guggenheim Museum and Italy's largest opera house.
United is the world's largest airline, flying to more international destinations than any other U.S. airline.. Total, next summer, United will offer 800 daily flights to 147 international destinations, including 40 that no other US airline serves.
All new flights are subject to government approval and will be available for sale on United.com and the United app.
Ulan Bator, Mongolia
United will be the only US airline to serve Mongolia and will do so thanks to expansion, with seasonal non-stop service from Tokyo/Narita starting on 1 of May. According to the new Welcome to Mongolia campaign, Ulan Bator is the gateway to some of Mongolia's most pristine lands, offering reindeer sleigh rides, camel races and dramatic landscapes, perfect for adventurous travelers.
Kaohsiung, Taiwan
From 11 of July, United will be the only US airline to offer direct service to Kaohsiung, Taiwan, a city known for its modern cityscape, its historic port and its impressive nature. From its extensive street art scene to iconic sites like the Pier-2 Art Center, Love River and Lotus Pond, The city is rich in activities for nature lovers and culture enthusiasts.
United's new service from Tokyo/Narita will provide an easy, one-stop option for U.S. travelers visiting the city, and complements the daily service, without scales, of the airline between San Francisco-Taipei.
Senegal
With United Washington/Dulles-Senegal nonstop flight, which will be launched 23 of May, United will now fly to more destinations in Africa than any other US airline. Located in the center of the west coast of Africa, Dakar is the gateway to Africa with pristine beaches, lush forests and rich archaeological history.
This tri-weekly, year-round service builds on the airline's existing service to Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa; Accra, Ghana y Lagos, Nigeria; and seasonal service to Marrakech, Morocco.
Nuuk, Greenland
Travelers will now have direct access to Arctic adventure in Greenland via twice-weekly seasonal service to its capital, Nuuk, from Newark/New York starting on 14 of June. United will be the only airline connecting the United States directly to Nuuk, the northernmost capital of the world, providing a gateway to world-class walking and fascinating wildlife under the summer midnight sun.
New Nuuk International Airport to Open Next Month, and United's new direct flights will make Greenland more accessible than ever for American travelers with a nonstop flight of just over four hours.
Palermo, Italy
United will serve five destinations in Italy starting on 21 May with the launch of its three-times-weekly nonstop seasonal service between Newark/New York-Palermo. Travelers will be able to experience the rich history of Sicily, its luxurious beaches and its impressive architecture, including the famous baroque church Casa Professa and the largest opera house in Italy, El Massimo.
This new flight builds on United's existing service to Venice, Naples, Milan and Rome, including the only US airline serving Italy from the west coast. The flight will operate in a Boeing 767-400, making United the only airline with fully lie-flat business class seats between the United States and Palermo.
Bilbao, Spain
United is expanding its leading network in Spain and will be the only US airline with nonstop service to Bilbao, with service from Newark/New York starting on 31 of May. As the largest city in the Spanish Basque Country, Bilbao is a center of architecture, culture and gastronomy. From visiting the iconic Guggenheim Museum to enjoying the famous Basque pinxtos, This Spanish gem offers an avant-garde urban experience and connects visitors to the incredible landscapes of northern Spain, including coastal destinations such as Gexto and Donostia-San Sebastián.
United serves six destinations in Spain, the most of any US airline, and it is the only airline that directly connects Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife, Málaga, and Bilbao with the United States, in addition to its service to Barcelona and Madrid.
Madeira and Faro, Portugal
The next summer, United will serve five destinations in Portugal, the most of any US airline, and is the only US airline serving Porto, Thin tip, Madeira and Faro. The new service to Faro will have four weekly flights starting on 16 of May, and Madeira will have three weekly flights from 7 of June. This builds on United's existing service to Lisbon from Newark/New York and Washington/Dulles.
Both new seasonal flights will be served from United's Newark/New York hub.
Expanded Global Service
In addition to the new destinations that will be incorporated into United's global network, The airline will also expand service to some of its most popular international destinations.
United to add year-round nonstop flight between Tokyo/Narita-Koror, Palau. United is the only US airline serving Palau, with its existing service from Guam and Manila, and this new flight will allow easy, one-stop connections for travelers coming from the United States to experience pristine marine ecosystems. With almost 350 islands in Palau, Visitors can plan the ultimate underwater adventure with snorkeling or diving to see the diverse coral and fish in the Pacific.
From 22 of May, United to begin daily nonstop flights to Venice, Italy, from Washington/Dulles, complementing its existing service from Newark/New York. The airline will also begin flying four times a week between Washington/Dulles-Nice, France, from 24 of May, in addition to its daily seasonal service from Newark/New York.
United will resume service to several destinations early in the season to give customers more time to explore next summer. From Newark/New York, United to resume service to Athens, Greece, the 6 of March; Venice, Italy, the 29 of March; y Dubrovnik, Croatia, which will also increase to daily service, the 1 of May. What's more, the 1 of May, United to resume service between San Francisco-Barcelona and Chicago O'Hare-Athens, which will be operated with a Boeing aircraft 787-10 larger. The airline will also increase its flights between Newark/New York and Palma de Mallorca, Spain, with four weekly flights.
Expansion of Mexico and Central America
In addition to United's historic expansion in the Atlantic and Pacific, United is also growing its network in Mexico and Central America. From 5 of April, United will be the first and only airline to connect the United States with Puerto Escondido, Mexico, with a non-stop flight once a week, all year, desde Houston, operated by United Express partner Mesa Airlines on Embraer aircraft 175. With this new flight, United will serve 23 destinations in Mexico and 65 destinations in the broader Latin American and Caribbean region, following the recent addition of service to Dominica from Newark/New York, which will be launched 15 February 2025.
From 22 of May, United will also add a new daily flight between San Francisco and San Jose, Costa Rica, using airplanes Boeing 737 MAX 8. United will now connect San José with the seven centers in the United States, further strengthening its position as the largest US airline in Costa Rica and Central America.
