The El Dorado International Airport expanded its operational capacity with the commissioning of 7 new remote parking positions.
The National Infrastructure Agency (YEARS) and the OPAIN concessionaire advanced the expansion and intervention at the 'El Dorado' airport in Bogotá that will enhance and improve the efficiency of air operations, It will decongest key areas and optimize overnight stay times., departures and transfer of aircraft.
The work had a scope of 47.261 m² and involved pouring 27.777 m³ of concrete (more of 11 olympic swimming pools), to dig 142.453 m³ (equivalent to 57 olympic swimming pools) and reuse 106.977 m³ of work material, reflection of El Dorado's environmental commitment.

The intervention also included key technological improvements such as the installation of electrical wiring, closed circuit television, fiber optic, drainage pipe and channels, and the installation of 8 lighting masts (5 from 22 meters high and 3 from 9 meters), among others.

“The start-up of seven new remote parking positions, represents a key step in improving our infrastructure. This expansion allows us to optimize daily air operations and significantly improves the efficiency and organization of the airport. We are committed to offering a more agile service, safe and with greater capacity to serve the growing flow of passengers and operations that we receive every day.”, stated Natali Leal, General Manager of OPAIN.
Simultaneously, while construction was being carried out on the platform, adjustments were made to the Terminal 2 (old air bridge) in which it was enabled 566 m2 for waiting rooms, 168 m2 for the filter area, three boarding rooms with a capacity of 180 passengers.
The Central Parking was another of the great works that significantly benefits airport users; there the accesses and exits were reconfigured, and expanded into a 17% the quotas, reaching 668 parking spaces.
Finally, the El Dorado airport took another step towards environmental innovation, installing photocatalytic paint on the entrance viaduct, which contributes to the purification of the air with a capacity equivalent to that of 1.000 adult trees. further, and under the circular economy strategy, Taxiways and access roads were paved using an asphalt mixture modified with recycled materials., incorporating 2,3 millions of plastic bags and 6.827 tires in an area of 24,862m².
