Ecuadorian Air Force Museum

The Ecuadorian Air Force (FAE), with the need to preserve its rich history, started in April 1972 a project to create an archive space. Major Gaul Colonel Drouet was key in this initiative, achieving that a physical space was assigned at the “Cosme Rennella” Higher Military Aviation School.

Thanks to donations from the Rennella family and other individuals, together with the support of the General Command of the FAE, It was possible to compile a valuable collection of objects and photographic material that narrates the milestones of national aviation.

On 1985, Brigadier General Carlos Jaramillo Abarca promoted this project with a more formal vision, developing a plan to establish an "Aeronautical Museum". Its objective was to centralize the collection, organization and preservation of the historical heritage of the FAE, ensuring its protection for future research.

The 1 September 1986, General Jaramillo Abarca, in his role as director, sent the document that justified the creation of the museum to the then president León Febres Cordero. weeks later, the 25 October 1986, The creation of the Aeronautical and Space Museum of the Ecuadorian Air Force was made official with the delivery of the accreditation documents.

Since then, the museum has operated in the Mariscal Sucre Air Base in Quito, serving as a guardian of the history and legacy of Ecuadorian aviation.
