Iberia in Ecuador has been authorized to operate in shared code with British Airways On their flights to Quito and Guayaquil.

The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) from Ecuador has issued Resolution No.. DGAC-DGAC-2025-0171-R, authorizing important agreements Shared Code (Code Share) that will enhance the country's connectivity with Europe and the Middle East.

British Airways launches its flights to Ecuador with Iberia

The Agreement has been APPROVED Shared Code between IBERIA, SPAIN AIRLINES, S.A.O. and BRITISH AIRWAYS PLC for the W25 season (of the 26 October 2025 al 28 march 2026).

The routes are as follows:

Madrid (MAD) – Guayaquil (GYE) vv Three (3) Marketing: BRITISH AIRWAYS

This agreement operates with third and fourth party traffic rights. freedoms of the air, allowing British Airways market direct flights operated by Iberia to and from Ecuador.

Codeshare Extension with Qatar Airways

similarly, The Base Program of Air Services Operated in Shared Code has been authorized between IBERIA, SPAIN AIRLINES, S.A.O. and QATAR AIRWAYS, also for the W25 season. This agreement is not new and has been operating for some years., the British one is the first time I've seen it.

Under this scheme, Qatar Airways may market the following services on routes already authorized to Iberia by the State Agency of Spain:

  • Madrid (MAD) – Quito (UIO) vv: Up to seven (7) weekly frequencies.
  • Madrid (MAD) – Guayaquil (GYE) vv: Up to three (3) weekly frequencies.

In this case, QATAR AIRWAYS will act as the marketing company for the flights, while IBERIA will be the operating company.

This regulatory green light underlines the airlines' commitment to the Ecuadorian market, offering passengers greater booking options and global connectivity through airline networks. British Airways and Qatar Airways, without adding new physical flights, but optimizing the sale of existing ones.
