United announced its latest innovation in Economy® class: a row of Economy Plus seats on its new planes Airbus A321XLR with extra elbow room and access to a shared table in the middle seat.
This new Economy Plus option will be available from the end of this year. United plans to include it in its entire fleet of 50 A321XLR and is studying the possibility of offering this type of seats on other aircraft models in the future.
United hopes to be the only US airline to offer this seating option, following the recent United Relax Row announcement, several rows of seats on their wide-body aircraft Boeing 787 and Boeing 777 that transform into a sofa and will be available at the beginning of 2027.
New United Economy Plus
“We are investing in our entire fleet and offering customers choice and value in every cabin”, declared Andrew Nocella, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of United. The XLR is our newest aircraft and not only offers lie-flat seats with direct aisle access on United Polaris®, but now also includes Economy Plus seats with additional leg and elbow room. Our customers will love all these new options.
In each XLR, one row will feature large, uniquely designed tables that extend from armrest to armrest along the free center seats, giving passengers sitting in the window or aisle additional space to stretch out on long international flights. The table is fixed, with a soft leather-like cover and two cup slots. This extra space is in addition to the extra three inches of legroom already offered in Economy Plus on the XLR..
The airline plans to share more information about the new product, including prices, ahead of its launch later this year.
