I was present at Aviation Day Colombia 2018 which was developed in Bogota, with the participation of great personalities of the airline industry of the region.

Thanks to the invitation and collaboration of Avianca Ecuador, I traveled to the Colombian capital to be part of this important event organized by IATA – Internacional Air Transport Association.

This event has the purpose of contributing with the evolution and improvements for the airline industry in the region., especially Colombia, and generate awareness of what must be improved to increase the growth of the sector.

For this event they met at the Grand Hyat Bogotá, the most important personalities of the largest airline groups in the region to talk and debate about the challenges and possible improvements to face a dynamic and changing industry.
The Latin American aviation faces significant growth led by large groups Latam Airlines, Avianca, Cup and VivaAir, but with a series of challenges to be able to maintain growth and stand out globally surrounded by large competitors.
within this framework, Several talks were held during the event on these important topics for the industry with panels on the contribution of aviation to the Colombian economy., Turismo – Airline industry challenges of the New Government, Airport Panel: Airport infrastructure: Challenges and service levels – Airport, Airport Panel: Airport infrastructure: Challenges and service levels – ATC, Executive Panel: Competitiveness and connectivity of air transport in Colombia, Presentation: Trends in Aviation, Panel: Vision towards the future – Personalization of the travel experience, Regulatory Panel: Institutionality and intelligent regulation in Colombia.
During the different panels, some important points of the Colombian industry were highlighted.:
- Aviation generates more than 600.000 jobs and provides 2.1% of GDP.
- El Dorado manages the 69% of Colombian air traffic.
- Bogotá could receive 40 million passengers a year and if a new terminal and third runway were built it could increase to 70 million annually.
- The last restructuring of the airspace in Bogotá made it possible to manage more than 90 operations/hour.
- The airspace will be optimized if the airspace over the Palanquero military base is made more flexible, which would be equivalent to between 12 a 41 miles less the 46.000 kilos less CO2 emissions.
- Colombia occupies almost the last place in the ranking of competitiveness of its rates and taxes.
- The elimination or reduction of fees and taxes could represent an increase in the 20% on the demand, what applies to the entire region.
- Ecuador is the least connected country in Latin America.
- Ecuador is the third country in growth attractiveness.
- In the next 20 years demand in Colombia could double or quadruple, It all depends on the changes that are made in favor of the industry.

The competitiveness and connectivity panel of air transport in Colombia had the expected participation of Pedro Heilbron CEO Copa Airlines, Enrique Cueto CEO LATAM, Angela Orozco Minister Ministry of Transportation, Hernan Rincon CEO Avianca and Rosario Cordoba.
Other highlights that were noted by the participants are the main restrictions that are related to airport infrastructure., where in many cases, These are collapsed and with delayed plans to grow.
I thank Avianca again for this opportunity to experience a day full of Aviation with outstanding personalities from the Latin American airline industry..

Coincidentally, Rosario-Córdoba is a route that is clamoring for in Argentina and there is no air connectivity between those two cities, which are the third and second largest respectively in the country., after Buenos Aires. Hahahaha! Greetings!
